Zoe Crawford

Licensed Clinical Social Worker

I am a licensed clinical social worker practicing in Northwest Portland. I particularly enjoy working with people who haven't had success with brief treatment and want to more deeply explore the underlying factors that contribute to their difficulties.

My Approach

I work primarily within a psychodynamic frame, as I believe that many of our actions and emotions are determined largely by unconscious factors. We will work together to increase your self-awareness and understanding of the influence of your past on your present circumstances. This will allow you greater freedom to choose how you wish to live, both now and in the future. As I believe that change occurs within the context of a consistent therapeutic relationship, I typically see clients a minimum of once per week. Psychodynamic therapy can lead to enduring changes and profound emotional growth.

My Background

After completing my MSW at New York University in 2005, I worked in adolescent and adult treatment programs for several years before transitioning to full-time private practice. I have particular expertise in addiction, and concentrate on two main areas within that specialty. I offer short-term consultations (1-3 sessions) on issues ranging from assessments to interventions and treatment recommendations. I also offer psychotherapy for those who are contemplating or have committed to sobriety. Understanding one's inner emotional life and underlying reasons for substance use (or addictive behaviors) are vitally important in maintaining ongoing positive growth. Additionally, I work with many people who don't struggle with substances but want help with a myriad of other difficulties. If you are seeking long-lasting change, we may work well together.
