My Ideal Client

I specialize in guiding individuals and couples through various challenges, including life transitions, grief and loss, generational trauma, codependency, depression, and intercultural relationships. My practice, rooted in multicultural counseling, particularly focuses on supporting BIPOC and Queer identities.

Our Background and Approach

Being bi-cultural, I deeply embrace the multicultural framework and acknowledge the profound impact of our family of origin, as well as the social, cultural, and historical context that shapes who we are. Within this context, I am particularly focused on understanding and addressing the unique concerns of clients who come from diverse backgrounds, valuing and honoring aspects such as race, ethnicity, religion, gender identity, sexual orientation, income, disability status, and other essential social factors. Throughout our therapeutic journey, I may incorporate various techniques customized to your specific needs. These include mindfulness exercises, techniques that harness your strengths, exploring your attachments, cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT), inner parts work (IFS), process work, and creative expressive arts. These invaluable tools will help us navigate the depths of your inner world, opening up new perspectives and empowering you to overcome challenges that may arise.

Why I Became a Therapist

I chose to become a therapist to carry forward the legacy of healers in my ancestral lineage. Growing up, my father, a revered shaman and healer in the Lao community, played a pivotal role in shaping my understanding of the counselor's role. The wisdom passed down through generations within my family has deeply influenced my approach to counseling. To overlook or obscure this profound influence would be to deny a fundamental aspect of my wisdom and authenticity as a counselor. My goal is to offer a safe, empathetic, and supportive environment for those in need, especially during life transitions, moments of grief, and in the face of uncertainty.

Specialties

  • Internal Family Systems (IFS) External link

I practice Internal Family System (IFS), a therapeutic modality recognizing the mind's diverse sub-personalities or parts. Trauma and attachment injuries may force these parts into undesirable roles, burdening them with intense emotions, memories, and sensations that get locked away. The aim is to foster harmony and balance, with a central focus on wholeness in IFS, where all parts are welcomed and valued.
