My Approach

I treat individuals, couples, and families who have experienced the death of a of loved one. My theoretical orientation is eclectic, spanning the full spectrum from constructivist-type approaches to cognitive-behavioral therapy. In my work with grieving or traumatically bereaved adults, I have found success in using trauma- and emotion-focused techniques that highlight the person's relationship to their primary attachment figures. Together with the patient, I explore the meaning they make of their loss and other issues that surface, including conflict, discord, and distress they may feel in relation to God, the universe, or others in their spiritual community. I facilitate discussion and writing assignments that allow clients to narrate and re-story their experiences in their own words.
