My Approach to Helping

I am a child and family, play therapist. My counseling practice is focused specifically on the unique mental health needs of children and their families. I’m currently offering virtual parenting support services in Oregon.

My Personal Beliefs and Interests

I am a child & family therapist who specializes in play therapy. I especially value working with families and on helping children and families grown and heal following traumatic experiences. I am currently dually certified as a Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC) and Licensed Marriage & Family Therapist (LMFT), registered with the Oregon Board of Licensed Professional Counselors and Therapists (OBLPCT), I am supervised by Dr. Kimberly Jayne, PhD, LPC, RPT-S, CCPT-S. I am happy to answer questions about the supervision process.

Techniques I Use

Specialties

  • Play Therapy  External link

When children have problems, sometimes they don’t have the words to talk about them. Play gives children a way to communicate feelings they don’t understand or can’t express any other way. Play therapy has been shown to be an effective intervention with children for a variety of behavioral and emotional difficulties. I'm currently offering virtual parenting training sessions only. Research has shown that motivated parents can be trained to be as effective as play therapists. See family therapy.

  • Family Therapy External link

Research has shown that motivated parents can be trained to be as effective as play therapists using play therapy skills with their own children, with as little as 20 hours of Child-Parent Relationship Therapy.

Issues I Treat

Specialties

  • Parenting External link

Children don't grow in isolation. Parents are the most important people in the lives of children. I'm happy to help support parents through the challenging and rewarding process of raising children.
