My Ideal Client

I work with adult individuals, couples and families. I pride myself on being able to work with a wide range of diverse clients for the past 14 years. I specialize in Emotion Focused Therapy, body image, adult adoptees, adult children of alcoholics, and parent coaching. If you have never been in therapy or if this is one of many times, please know that with me, you are walking into a safe and open-minded environment that emphasizes your strengths, hopes, and opportunities.

My Approach to Helping

I am an active and engaged therapist who believes in the power of experiential, in-session interventions to help you live the life that you want. Many of us can think a few levels higher than we can act, which causes suffering, worrying, and shame (not to mention problems in our most important relationships). I help people align their lives with their values so they can be their most authentic selves. I have worked in the mental health field for the past 14 years in a variety of settings including community mental health, in schools, in private practice, as a group facilitator and as a lecturer. My specialties and passion areas include relationship difficulties, disordered eating, body image, recovering from chronic dieting, adult adoptees, adult children of alcoholics, shame, obsession, and habitual worrying, health anxiety, and parent coaching. I am trained in Health At Every Size and enjoy working with people who want to give up chronic dieting and attune to their bodies.

My Values as a Therapist

As a couples and family therapist I believe that individuals, couples, and families have strength and resiliency to draw from in order to support the changes they want to see in their lives and I provide the space and facilitation needed to make these changes. Problems and solutions are not rooted individuals or families, but are given meaning and form in relationships and conversations. Therefore, I help clients examine dominant narratives in the context of their own race, religion, sexual orientation, ethnicity, gender, culture, class, and ability and how these narratives influence problems, alternatives, solutions, and equity in their relationships. I have also developed a passion for supervising beginning therapists, earning the AAMFT approved supervisor designation, which is the highest designation in the MFT field.

Techniques I Use

Specialties

  • Couples Counseling External link

Marriage and family therapists are specially trained to work with couples and relationships, helping partners better understand the patterns that affect communication, connection, and conflict. Their approach focuses on the relationship itself, not just each individual person, which can help couples feel more understood and supported as they work through challenges together.

  • Emotionally Focused External link

I use Emotion Focused Therapy (EFT) which is an evidenced based treatment to help people understand their automatic responses, slow down, and act from a place of authenticity. I am highly trained in EFT through ICEEFT in London and have continued education in the modality.

  • Family Therapy External link

Marriage and family therapists are trained to look beyond individual symptoms and understand how relationships, communication styles, and family dynamics impact emotional well-being. By viewing challenges through a family systems lens, therapy can address the deeper patterns influencing the family as a whole, rather than focusing on one person in isolation.
