My Ideal Client

Life is full of challenges. Some are exciting, while others are difficult. Everyone needs support when experiencing pain, sadness, or fear. I specialize in working with women, 21-101 yrs, who are experiencing anxiety or depression, struggling to overcome negative thought patterns and interactions, or facing serious health issues, caregiving issues or loss of a loved one I believe each woman has the inner strength needed to take meaningful steps toward life-giving goals.

My Background and Approach

I am a Licensed Clinical Social Worker(LCSW) with over 30yrs of experience. I worked as an elementary school counselor for 7 yrs, then as a Hospice and Palliative Care Social Worker since 2004. I started my private practice, Mountain Sage counseling, in 2020. I have had the opportunity to work with youngsters and their parents, and patients, family members and caregivers. I understand the health care systems benefits and problems, and am familiar with supporting elders and their families, as they consider transitioning to higher levels of care. I have an empathetic, client-centered approach, focused on helping you recognize and enhance your strengths, improve your coping skills, alter you negative thought patterns, and find meaning and joy in life, by living from your values. I use an insight-oriented approach and draw from many therapeutic models, including cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT), Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT) and internal family systems(IFS).

Social Justice Issues I Care About

I was raised in the Judeo-Christian tradition. I had opportunities to work as a volunteer at a 'soup kitchen' and with children with disabilities, from the age of 13. In HS, I was drawn to service activities, and to 'helping those less fortunate'. In college, I learned about racism, feminism, 'the military industrial complex', and the dangers of nuclear energy. I developed a justice lense, asking, "who gains by this action or policy?" and developing a 'preferential option for the poor' stance. I had the meaningful opportunity to be a 'Jesuit Volunteer', after college, working with emotionally abused children, and then moving to the NorthWest to be a supervisor for volunteers working in rural cities and on 'Indian Reservations'. I learned to love the NorthWest, and continued working with low income families until I went to graduate school. I have been fortunate to have a degree that allowed me to do the work I care about, while raising 2 daughters!
