My Ideal Client

Are you feeling stuck? Are you tired of your job, your life, your choices, your relationship? Do you have repetitive thoughts about changing some part of your life but have a hard time activating those thoughts into action? I work with clients who want to reengage in their lives and who value creativity as a part of that process. If you're a musician, writer, artist, or someone with a creative practice, or looking to establish one, we can explore where you're at and where you want to be.

My Background and Approach

I am a poet and an educator, and after teaching creative and academic writing classes for 20 years, I returned to school to study counseling. My approach is centered in Narrative therapy, which means we will work together to consider the ways you language your experiences and tell your story, as well as how your story has been told to you and how it gets translated to other people. Existential therapy also factors into my practice, as I believe asking questions about what gives our lives purpose is essential to growth and healing. I work with clients to help them find more meaning in their lives by facilitating a space in which they can explore who they are without judgement.

Why I Became a Therapist

I love being a writing teacher, but I felt drawn to working with people on a one-on-one basis. I've always loved asking questions and believe that the ways in which we know things, and are taught to know them, is intimately connected to how we think about them. This goes for the way we know and think about ourselves as well. What leads us to believe what we believe and how do these beliefs shape how we see ourselves and the world around us?
