My Ideal Client

I work with couples who are seeking a better relationship, healing from affairs, or are struggling with a phase of life that is unfamiliar. I use Gottman Couples therapy and am also trained in EMDR as well as Equine Assisted Therapy. I look forward to helping couples manage conflict and deal with differences in their relationship. If I am not able to get you scheduled with me, I manage a group of great therapists who can probably see you sooner than I can. We are here to serve you.

My Approach to Helping

As a Certified Gottman Therapist, I focus on the research-based approach to helping couples heal. We have you do an in-depth assessment and use the Core Values Index to understand you at your innate, unchanging core level. We also offer Equine Assisted Therapy, using the horses as co-therapists who mirror your emotions. The use of horses helps to facilitate a unique therapeutic experience leading to strategic solutions. We have several groups available at the Newberg barn.

My Personal Beliefs and Interests

I have been licensed since 2006 and have been practicing the Gottman Method for the past several years, and became fully certified as a Gottman Certified Therapist in 2017. I am also a Gottman Trainer as well. My husband and I have been doing couples conferences since 2003 and he also offers relationship coaching and co-therapy if that is something you would like to do. I became certified in the EAGALA method of Equine Assisted Therapy in 2014. I use a combination of EFT, Intersubjectivity, Gottman, Equine, and Strategic/Structural therapy to serve my clients best. I believe clients need to feel safe and secure in my presence, so that is my greatest strength: the ability to make you feel safe enough to explore your strengths and struggles and secure enough to try something new.

Techniques I Use

Specialties

  • Couples Counseling External link

At Core Values Counseling, we specialize in The Gottman Method of Couples therapy. We also provide couples conferences to add in your growth as a couple.

  • Equine Assisted Psychotherapy (EAP) External link

Equine Assisted Psychotherapy (EAP) is a new model for the treatment of many issues and has been found in recent research studies to help people with anxiety and depression by interactions with horses on the ground (vs. riding). Horses have mirror neurons which they use to mirror the emotions of the people working with them. This is an interactive, movement-based therapy excellent for all ages.

  • EMDR External link

I am trained in S.A.F.E. EMDR which is based in somatic and attachment theory. This mode of therapy is well documented and researched as the gold standard for dealing with trauma of all kinds.

Issues I Treat

Specialties

  • Relationship / Marriage Issues External link

Helping relationships heal and prosper is my passion. So often couples struggle and have no one to help them connect. That is what we do best. Give you tools through our training as a Gottman Certified therapist and relationship coach. We will cultivate hope through practicing compassion and forgiveness and bring you to a better place~

  • Family Conflict External link

I have worked with youth and their families for over 30 years (as a youth mentor for 20 and in the schools for seven as a school counselor). I love helping young adults find a path to their future and help parents become the best consultants they can!

  • Adjustment Disorder External link

So often when we are going through a transition in life, we hit some bumps along the way. It is normal, and I hope to help smooth the way to a new place in your life.

  • Anxiety External link

Everyone has some sort of anxiety, some of us are debilitated by anxiety. I work with you to find ways to cope with and overcome anxiety, or at least make more manageable to handle.
