My Ideal Client

I specialize in working with adolescents and adults struggling with anxiety and depression, and families engaged in patterns of unhealthy relationships and interactions. Through my work in group homes, schools, a psychiatric hospital, community mental health center, in-home, and private practice, I learned to effectively treat those struggling with symptoms related to trauma, relational difficulties, emotional and behavioral challenges, and family conflict.

My Approach to Helping

My style is down to earth, warm, and supportive. I believe my clients should control as much of their treatment as possible. I honor an individual's vision of their journey and act as a guide to help them meet their goals. I also offer challenges and strategies to help clients achieve emotional and mental wellness in ways they had not considered before.  My background is in attachment and family structural therapy. I believe individuals are deeply affected by their first attachment relationships, and the relationships they form later in life play a part in both their successes and difficulties. I utilize cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT) techniques, mindfulness techniques, dialectal behavioral therapy (DBT), and motivational interviewing to promote change and healing. Therapy is a process of growth. I provide a judgment-free environment that encourages self-expression, cognitive and emotional transformation, and self-awareness.

My Personal Beliefs and Interests

Helping others discover peace, connection, and confidence in the face of turmoil has long been a passion of mine. I believe everyone is capable of growth and healing if they are provided sufficient encouragement, support, and effective strategies. I encourage clients to identify and communicate their unique needs and concerns in order to improve interpersonal relationships, manage bothersome emotions or behaviors, and develop healthier family connections. My background is in Family Structural Therapy, which places value on and examines an individual’s relationships, both past and present. This approach assesses the ways in which relationships shape people’s self-worth, how they interact with others, how they manage difficult experiences, and their emotional and mental health. My family is mixed race, and I work with a diverse array of clients. I am committed to serving as a support to those exploring their race, gender, and sexual identity.

Issues I Treat

Specialties

  • Anxiety External link

I have specialized in anxiety disorders for the duration of my career. I utilize some CBT skills, but include acceptance commitment therapy and motivational interviewing to increase a client's competency, control, and sense of peace.

  • Self-Esteem External link

Issues pertaining to self-esteem flood into all parts of a person's life, often negatively-effecting their relationships, jobs, and sense of competency. I have worked my entire career with young adults, adolescents, and adults to increase their understanding of their strengths, abilities, and realistic goals to improve their sense of themselves.
