My Approach to Helping

I embrace the interplay between psychology, energy, mind-body medicine and the science of the brain to approach counseling more holistically. In sessions with me, you may enjoy breath work, movement, meditation to shift neural connections toward healing and self care. Paired with traditional evidence based practices, this prepares all aspects of the self to move toward your personal goals and away from old patterns that no longer serve you.

My Personal Beliefs and Interests

I have been licensed in the State of Oregon since I moved here over a decade ago from the Mid-west. I use a variety of traditional counseling theories to provide individualized care for my clients, drawing from Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Dialectical Behavioral Therapy, EMDR and Trauma Focused Care. I am also a Registered Yoga Teacher- 200hr through Yoga Alliance and this provides me with a clearer understanding of how our mind/body connection relates to all aspects of our functioning.

Techniques I Use

Specialties

  • Holistic External link

I strongly believe in the mind/body connection and that both must be addressed to really thrive. I am trained in traditional, evidenced based psychotherapy, yoga, as well as nutrition and integrative medicine for mental health.

  • Somatic Therapy (Body Centered) External link

My perspective is that the mind and the body cannot be seperated if we are to feel like we are wholly living. I use a variety of breathing techniques, yoga, body sensing and physical health approaches to bring the mind and body to healing together.

  • Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) External link

I have been integrating the coping skills from Dialectical Behavioral Therapy into practice with all my clients for many years. DBT skills are excellent life skills and can lead us to a more fulfilling life, no matter what life challenges we face.

Issues I Treat

Specialties

  • Personal Growth External link

Many of us have things we would like to see improve in our lives, like moving beyond survival or recovery to finding our personal best. Each of us have a different starting point and seeing growth in our lives is a very individual process. We may use a wide range of techniques to help you live and age well focusing on achieving a state of fulfillment.

  • Gender Identity External link

I have experience working with teens and young adults in exploring gender identity. I also provide readiness evaluations for those seeking medical transitions.

  • PTSD External link

Trauma impacts many of our lives. Most of us can identify turning points where we felt something change in our lives. I have a variety of approaches that help get to a place of healing. I am trained in EMDR, yoga and am nationally certified in Trauma Focused Cognitive Behavioral Therapy.
