My Ideal Client

Mental health diagnoses can vary from depression, anxiety, bipolar disorder, post-traumatic stress disorder, obsessive-compulsive disorder, psychosis, and personality disorders, among others. I believe that all things exist on a spectrum, and the intensity will vary. Due to this, diagnosis is an ever-evolving process that won’t happen with one session, but several and with rapport and trust. Information gathered in the initial evaluation is thoroughly reviewed to establish a diagnosis.

My Background and Approach

I have over 17 years of experience working in mental health, first as a licensed mental health therapist and then as a psychiatric provider. I grew up in Oregon, attending Portland State University for a Bachelor of Science in Criminal Justice and Psychology (2002), then earning a Master of Arts in Counseling Psychology (2005). I achieved licensure as a therapist (LPC) in 2008 and then in 2013 began my nursing education, achieving my RN in 2014 and then board certification as an advanced practice Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner. I provide psychiatric evaluation, ongoing therapeutic medication management for adults and adolescents ages 15 and older. My work has led me through numerous levels of mental health care; outpatient (adult and children), inpatient medical as psychiatry liaison, inpatient psychiatry, emergency department, and correctional settings. Health and wellness are my focus that I'd like to translate into mental health. More info can be found on the website.

My Personal Beliefs and Interests

Holistic care involves the mind, body, and the environmental sphere in which we exist. Instead of only focusing on the medications, there will be a combination of psychotherapy and medication, either with an outside therapist or with capacity myself, where we can assess layers and apply appropriate interventions. Therapy is an essential component of mental health treatment. The combination of therapy and medication is often more effective than either alone. Therapy expands skills, often leading to a place where medications may not be necessary. As a therapist, then nurse practitioner, I often provide brief therapy with each session as part of the funneling down of medication effects matched with coping and self-care. More traditional therapy techniques can be learned in longer medication management sessions. I do not provide psychotherapy alone but can provide recommendations to those who do should you be interested.
