My Ideal Client

To me, counseling is not a process of fixing. Rather it is a process of supporting you not only in “seeing” yourself more clearly, but in being yourself more clearly and fully. I believe in growth and the capacity for change. I do not view change as an end-goal, rather as a process. I work most frequently within the queer community, with neurodiverse individuals, and with people of color.

My Approach to Helping

My style is warm, empathic, and direct. I work to establish a space that can be as safe as possible and I trust in your desire to grow and learn. I view therapy as a challenge we undertake together. I believe that your identities, personality, present and past experiences in the world informs much of who and how you are as well as your unique experience moving through the world. I believe that we each do our best to cope with internal, interpersonal, and environmental stressors and traumas given the tools we have had access to. This coping often happens outside of our awareness and can become fixed into a pattern over time--and though it has been invaluable, it isn't always what we really need in the present. By becoming aware of this we can support healing, we can take some of our power back from past and ongoing traumas, and have more choice in how we engage moving forward. I believe it is by becoming more fully ourselves that we heal.

My Personal Beliefs and Interests

I bring a background of training in contemporary gestalt informed by internal family systems. I like these approaches because they feel respectful of identities present as we move through the world and as we shift through spaces with varying demands that we manage and respond to. I work with "parts" and your meaning-making processes to engage with trauma, anxiety, depression, relationships, and self acceptance. It is important to me to better understand your internal world and your relationship with yourself. I have also trained in dialectical behavior therapy, which I feel provides a good tool box to use when we need specific tools to support nervous system regulation. A formulaic or copy past approach is not for me, often these feel based in white, cis, hetero, neurotypical, colonial, and otherwise dominant expectations. I want our work to be about you, about understanding and respecting who you are as the baseline for healing and the growth you want.
