My Ideal Client

I believe I work best with individual, adult clients who are motivated for change, interested in developing effective and personalized coping skills, and open to deepening their self-awareness. Additionally, I am a Filipino and queer therapist and enjoy working with BIPOC and LGBTQIA+ clients. The presenting concerns I enjoy supporting individuals with include anxiety, depression, insomnia, trauma, and identity issues.

My Approach to Helping

I strive to create a collaborative environment where you can bolster your strengths and feel confident you can navigate through the concerns that brough you to therapy. To help you achieve relevant, personalized therapeutic goals and develop effective coping tools, we may use interventions from cognitive behavioral therapy, EMDR, and solution-focused therapy. Additionally, I incorporate a person-centered stance to ensure you can feel understood, accepted, and confident you are working with a clinician who is genuine. If these qualities become hard to authentically cultivate in our work, I will do my best to provide you with a referral to a therapist who may be a better fit for you. Finally, I regularly incorporate cultural humility and a relational-cultural framework to ensure we can work in a manner that is sensitive to your experiences and background. My goal is not to simply treat you as I would like to be treated, but rather to treat you as you wish to be treated.

My Personal Beliefs and Interests

I believe we all have the capacity for healing and growth. I also deeply value cultural humility and regularly strive to learn more about the cultural identities of others and my own. I became a counselor to help channel my innate desire to help others into a positive outlet. Additionally, I have had several positive experiences in my personal counseling that nudged me to this field. I earned my Masters in Mental Health Counseling from Montana State University. I have experience working in such settings as college counseling, community health, and private practice environments. I have received specialized training in CBT-I and TF-CBT, and I am currently in training for EMDR. People have described me as warm, patient, accepting, calming, and insightful. When I’m not working, you can find me spending quality time with family and friends, admiring local bookstores, and enjoying the outdoors. I appreciate you taking the time to learn more about me. I look forward to connecting with you!

Issues I Treat

Specialties

  • Racial Identity External link

I utilize Relational Cultural Therapy to ensure we can sensitively and effectively examine how the various personal and cultural relationships in your life have impacted you and your wellbeing. Additionally, I believe my lived experience as a individual who is Filipino-American and a second-generation immigrant has helped me foster a greater appreciation and empathy for the challenges facing many folks who identify as BIPOC and/or AAPI.

  • Insomnia External link

I have received specific training in providing CBT-I services. Additionally, I have personal experience with both managing insomnia and the struggle of finding providers who can effectively support folks who have insomnia concerns. My goal is to provide you with effective, evidence-based tools that help you develop personalized and life-long healthy sleep habits.

  • PTSD External link

I have years of experience supporting folks through various trauma-related concerns such as racial trauma, SA, and childhood trauma. Additionally, I have received training in TF-CBT and trauma-informed care to ensure our trauma work is compassionate, personalized, and effective. I am also currently engaged in EMDR training to further expand and deepen my ability to support folks in processing their trauma and managing their trauma-related concerns.

  • Anxiety External link

I have received training in and regularly incorporate tools from CBT and solution-focused therapy to help folks manage their anxiety. Such tools help individuals with identifying and challenging their thoughts and behaviors that perpetuate patterns of anxiety as well as developing personalized, positive thoughts and behaviors that help individuals manage life's challenges and stresses in a effective manner.

  • Depression External link

I have training in and regularly utilize tools from CBT and solution-focused therapy to support folks in identifying the ways their thoughts and behaviors perpetuate depressive symptoms, challenge these thoughts and behaviors, and increase their use of thoughts and behaviors that can help folks move through their depressive symptoms and lead lives filled with meaning, purpose, and fulfillment.
