Professional Counselor Associate

Everybody struggles with feelings of self worth or discouragement. Whether from personal loss, social difficulties or bumps in our relationships, it's easy to forget these emotions are a natural part of the human experience. It's even harder to remember it's okay to ask for help when overwhelmed.

We all get bogged down with what we ‘should do’ or worry about how we are ‘supposed to’ feel. Through no fault of our own, these thoughts can become overwhelming. We lose track of what makes us who we are, what gives us our sense of self worth. When these thoughts won’t go away, sometimes everyone needs a helping hand. Other times, we just need a break from the world and a safe place. Emotions aren't something we can easily just think our way out of. They are real. Just like any pain, they can require real attention. There is no therapeutic formula that 'fixes people.' I believe in meeting people where they are, in listening to their stories and finding their strengths.

I hold a Masters of Science in counseling and was an RSA Scholar. I am a member of the American Counseling Association, a certified rehabilitation counselor (CRC) and an LPC intern with the Oregon board of licensed therapists. I have years of experience working with the Poly and LGBTQ community. I was also a ADA and social services support professional for ten years, both in Portland and elsewhere. I have advanced training or certification is Depression/anxiety, Mindfulness, Motivational Interviewing, Trauma recovery, PTSD, Autism, TBI, Disability rights and case management.

Specialties

  • Relationship / Marriage Issues External link

I have a focus on Non-Monogamous or open relationships. These partnerships can be difficult to navigate. Despite intentions, jealousy, fear and difficulties with self worth can easily be present. Often, understanding support can be difficult to find.

  • PTSD External link

Trauma is another human condition that some folks think can be just 'wished away'. Even things that happened years ago can echo into the present. Unwanted thoughts and emotions can jump into our minds and make daily life hard to focus on. I have experience helping people come to terms with trauma. With the right skills, it is possible to make room for the past and re-enter your life.

  • Anxiety External link

I specialize in social anxiety and phobia. I use a narrative and mindfulness approach to normalize and limit fears of social engagement.

  • Autism External link

I have ten years of experience working with individuals with autism. My specialty is helping parents understand and relate to a child with autism. I also have experience assisting individuals with autism who are struggling with anxiety or frustration
