My Ideal Client

If you are struggling with partner relationships, parenting or parent-teen relationships, I have nearly 20 years of experiencing helping people just like you. I've long been the therapist who loves to work with snarky and defiant teens, as well as adults who are reluctant about coming to therapy. Maybe you fear being blamed or being seen as "the problem" - and I can assure you that you won't be. I specialize in healing those relationship rifts and improving connection and communication skills.

My Approach to Helping

Over the years I have continued to refine my skills, interventions, and perspectives to incorporate new research as well as simply learning over time what works and what doesn't. In most cases, there are many roads to healing. I will help you to figure out which strategies make sense FOR YOU. And if something doesn't make sense, I want my clients to tell me or challenge me. My suggestions and strategies are grounded in solid theory and research, and I will always be able to explain why I'm thinking the way I am. AND that doesn't mean it has to make sense to you, so let's talk about it. I am a big believer that the most important work for change comes outside of the session, so I'll provide exercises, reading, and other resources for you to practice with between sessions. Together we'll find what makes sense to you and what works for you - and my biggest goal is to work myself out of a job, because therapy shouldn't last forever.

Why I am a Good Fit for You

The path of my career has taken me to the umbrella of "relationships" of all kinds - I worked with families and teens for the first part of my career. Between 2010 and 2015 the most formative training of my career occurred: Bullies to Buddies (Izzy Kalman) and Pragmatic Experiential Therapy for Couples (PET-C, Brent Atkinson) overlapped and shaped how I view strained and problematic relationships, and since that time I have adapted much of Atkinson's approach for family relationships, with particular emphasis on parent-teen relationships and find it both fascinating and deeply rewarding. I have extensively studied Interpersonal Neurobiology (aka how relationships shape the mind) and obtained certification as a Sex Therapy Informed Professional (CSTIP with Tammy Nelson). I come with a wealth of background, steeped in research-supported methods and perspectives. I love what I do and after almost 20 years, I still get excited by the growth and change I see in front of me every day.
