My Ideal Client

I work with individuals who are wanting to better understand themselves. To name a few areas, I'm passionate about multi-generational issues, working with immigrants, children of immigrants, & identity development. My practice is a space where no topic is taboo, and where you will be seen authentically. In addition, my goal is not to keep you in therapy but rather to work towards inner alignment so that you can be at a place to stand on your own, surrounded by people who support you.

My Approach to Helping

I view therapy as a process of continuously understanding oneself. I utilize many different theories and methods in my work, however, I’ve found myself leaning on psychodynamic and narrative techniques most often. The psychodynamic approach to therapy essentially means that the things in our past matter, and that they played a role in shaping who we are. Narrative therapy is a theory that works to help you understand the story you tell about your life, and to see your concerns outside of yourself, and that you are not your problems. I also work to practice from a decolonial lens. Decolonized therapy is an approach that acknowledges the impact colonization and imperialism has had on humanity, regardless of one's identity.

My Personal Beliefs and Interests

I earned my master’s degree in clinical mental health counseling from Portland State University in 2024. I also hold a bachelor’s degree in psychology from Washington State University. Prior to becoming a therapist I worked in education, working at several schools across Washington and Oregon primarily in grades 6-8. Teaching is ultimately what brought me to the counseling field; my students inspired me to pursue my master’s degree. Beyond my traditional education, it is imperative that I engage in political activism & organizing. As a Palestinian American Muslim, who also happens to be a therapist, I have a responsibility to ensure that my therapy practice is socially conscious. Mental health concerns stem from larger systemic issues including (but not limited to) capitalism and colonialism. My practice will always be a safe place for muslims, indigenous people, and all oppressed peoples.

Techniques I Use

Specialties

  • Narrative  External link

Narrative therapy is a theory that works to help you understand the story you tell about your life, and to see your concerns outside of yourself, and that you are not your problems. I primarily use this approach as a way to ground yourself in personal definitions of values as well as a way to notice patterns of behavior and recurring themes.

  • Psychodynamic  External link

The psychodynamic approach to therapy essentially means that the things in our past matter, and that they played a role in shaping who we are. The goal of this theory is to help people understand the deeper, often unconscious reasons behind their thoughts, feelings, and behaviors.
