My Ideal Client

Is ADHD making daily life feel overwhelming? Are you constantly distracted or struggling to stay organized? Do you and your partner feel like you’re speaking different languages? Is making or maintaining friendships difficult? As someone who is neurodivergent I know how hard things get. Hi everyone! I’m Steven Ponec, MA, Professional Counselor Associate at Oak Hills Counseling Center, practicing under the supervision of Mary E. Roberts, LPC (#C9489) and Leslie Taylor, LPC (#C9013).

My Approach to Helping

I want to create a warm, safe, and accepting space where you can be yourself. I understand how self-regulation can be difficult, which is why I can act as a regulating force in the therapy room and approach each session with kindness and understanding. I use a human centered focus with a mix of evidence based cognitive practices that help you build skills and practice mindfulness. My goal is to listen and support you so you feel comfortable sharing your feelings and struggles.

My Personal Beliefs and Interests

I believe that everyone is trying their best and doing what they can to succeed in life. Like I mentioned before, I know how hard having ADHD can be. I come from a nonjudgmental space because it’s what I needed when I was younger and still need, and I want to give that to my clients now. I am also a member of the LGBTQIA+ community along with being neurodivergent.

Issues I Treat

Specialties

  • ADHD External link

I am working to become certified in treating ADHD. Additionally, I have experience working with ADHD clinically, as well as personal lived experience with neurodivergence

  • Aspergers External link

I have extensive knowledge of asperger’s and autism level 1 (which are essentially the same thing). I hope to work with more clients on the spectrum - I have worked with undiagnosed clients in the past.

  • Anxiety External link

Many, most, and maybe even all clients that I have treated with ADHD have some form of anxiety. Through my experience with using DBT CBT and ACT, it has helped me better understand how many of us who are neurodivergent experience and handle anxiety.
