I work with adults on a wide range of issues, predominantly treating mood disorders, addiction, self image issues, self-destructive behaviors, severe persistent mental illness, and trauma recovery. While diagnostic assessment is an important step in treatment, I do not lose sight of individual differences and work with each client to tailor treatment to their unique experiences, skills, and needs.
Specialties
I work from a trauma-informed perspective, utilizing DBT, CBT, and narrative tools to address symptoms of Posttraumatic Stress Disorder and Complex Trauma. I work with clients to build awareness of the origins of trauma, identify trauma responses, maladaptive beliefs, and harmful relationship patterns. Throughout this process clients develop new coping skills and more adaptive ways of responding in relationships and to the world around them.
My background in diagnostics and clinical assessment along with my own experience living with ADHD allow me to work well with clients seeking help for this disorder. After establishing a diagnosis and coordinating care with other health professionals, I we work to identify areas where ADHD symptoms are impacting life, such as relationships, self care, or school/work performance. Together we can find the behavioral and cognitive interventions that best fit their needs and learning style.
I have worked with addiction as a counselor in day treatment and intensive outpatient programs, as a sober living house manager, street outreach and community level support. Understanding the biological bases and the disease model of addiction, as well as the spiritual and personal consequences. I am competent and comfortable working within the 12-step modality but also familiar with alternative recovery models. My intention is always to seek individual truth and find what works for each client.
I have over ten years experience working from a trauma-informed perspective and utilizing DBT, CBT, and narrative tools to address the symptoms of unipolar and/or bipolar depression.
