My Ideal Client

As a former therapy-skeptic, I understand how daunting and frustrating taking this step can feel. My clients are often folks who are anxious or skeptical to begin therapy but ready and driven to make a change. I work with teens and adults who feel like they are stuck in a cycle of behaving in ways that just do not feel right anymore. Sometimes my clients understand the root cause of the behavior, know what is needing change and (like all of us) struggle with breaking these patterns.

How I Can Help You

I walk alongside clients as we figure out how to make lasting, effective change that allows them to move through the world feeling more aligned with themselves. I believe that enduring change comes through empowerment, autonomy and the mutual understanding that this life is so hard and there is no right or wrong way of doing it. I will often lean into humor, transparency and always authenticity with clients. Through memory reconsolidation and client lead meaning making, I help clients to achieve their goals- whatever they may be!

Why I Became a Therapist

If you had told me in my teens that I was going to become a therapist I would have dropped dead from disbelief. I was a therapy hater through and through and I had some good reasons. As a client, I had experienced feeling dismissed, condescended to, and misunderstood at the hands of a well-meaning therapist and it had caused a lot of harm. Today, I always keep that younger me in mind as I work with teens and adults who are taking the courageous leap to start therapy. It is no small feat, and it is so important to me that no client in my room feels the way that I did at such a vulnerable time. Prior to becoming a therapist, I spent four years working as a legal advocate for youth in foster care which only further solidified what I already felt: we need more therapists who center autonomy, transparency, and profound lasting change for their clients.

Issues I Treat

Specialties

  • Child or Adolescent Issues External link

I have worked with children and adolescents in foster care for over four years and have found that this age range is my favorite to work with. I truly respect and honor these phases of life and all that comes with it. At this age we are beginning to develop a sense of self and identity and much of my experience and training has been centered around supporting this growth, especially for children and teens who have experienced trauma throughout their childhood.
