My Ideal Client

I find myself helping clients who have gone through and are going through some of the things I've experienced growing up and living with ADHD. I thought my difficulties with getting started on certain tasks, staying organized, and focusing on the right things were just personal shortcomings. Finally getting help with my ADHD was a way for me to actually make improvements instead of simply blaming myself. I help others who find it hard to do the things that are important to them.

My Approach to Helping

In my experience with ADHD, I often thought I just needed more planners or apps or timers that would get me in line or force me to actually do what I needed. What I've found is that my ADHD difficulties were more than just organization or willpower, there are actually well-meaning reasons why I avoid starting something or drift off in my mind. I approach helping people through a lens of assuming that your difficulties stem from positive intentions and that what we need is an approach that acknowledges those yearnings and helps to redirect them in ways that actually move us forward. I use an approach called Acceptance and Commitment therapy to help clients see how their patterns of avoidance, while well-meaning, leads to short term gains and long-term problems. Clients I work with often learn how to slow down and choose actions that benefit them instead of living in our minds and working to try to avoid discomfort.

My Personal Beliefs and Interests

I believe that everyone has an innate desire to live a full and amazing life. I like to approach everyone with the belief that such a life could be right around the bend. I know that ADHD and just how difficult life is can make it seem like our dreams are out of reach or that we don't deserve them. But I also know how liberating it can be to start on that journey and take the first steps. I am a big nerd at heart. I am fluent in manga and anime and also like to play and draft Magic the Gathering and believe it helps illustrate many important life lessons. I love my Boston Terrier and spending time with my friend community as much as possible.
