My Ideal Client

My clients are searching for authenticity, their inner truth, and a feeling of direction and purpose in life. They are soul-searchers who have experienced a dark night of soul, and are looking to restore their inner light. My clients are interested in journaling/writing, art-making, or creative means of self-expression. My clients are also looking for a relational and dynamic therapist that offers tools for coping, skills to practice, as well as a depth of insight into their symptoms.

My Background and Approach

I specialize in the treatment of eating disorders, mood disorders, and trauma. I aim to help individuals manage difficult emotions and recover a lost sense of self and meaning. We do this through the Jungian lens of approaching and integrating the shadow. By using internal family systems I help clients form new attitudes towards their inner parts, and cultivate a center of self. A lot of this work is based around self-compassion and attachment theory. By using re-parenting tools with ourselves and our parts, we can feel more whole and less conflicted by difficult emotions in the body. I also work with trauma and stress and find art therapy, internal family systems, and a mixture of dreamwork or imaginative work can be helpful for creating meaning and resilience.

My Personal Beliefs and Interests

As a Jungian psychologist I believe that there is a collective unconscious that we are all connected to. I believe in a holistic appraoch to understanding symptoms as messengers from the unconscious that offer helpful information. I believe all of our inner parts possess an innate wisdom that is unique to each person and that by connecting to and healing these split off parts, one can connect to a deep sense of personal meaning. This meaning can also be found through art-making, dreamwork, imaginative/visualization exercises, and journaling prompts. I also believe that archetypal astrology can be a helpful tool in psychotherapy, which can help connect daily life experiences to deeper underlying patterns that inform our lives. I also believe in challenging systems of oppression, and as a specialist in the field of eating disorders I support anti-diet and health at every size appraoches to healing.

Techniques I Use

Specialties

  • Depth Therapy External link

I am a certified archetypal astrologer and I wrote my Phd dissertation on active imagination and archetypal astrology in C. G. Jung's Black Books. I offer astrological counseling as a way to access the archetypal map of an individual's life. Working with me does not necessitate astrology, but please ask if you are interested.

  • Art Therapy External link

I provide art therapy via telehealth and like to make art in session or provide clients with prompts to explore creatively outside of session. Some clients make collages from photos on their phone. Some clients are artists working on current projects. Some clients like to buy and refurbish things from the thrift store as a form of self-care. I encourage clients to keep a journal of some kind for writing, art, dreams, or notes in session.

  • Internal Family Systems (IFS) External link

I was trained in IFS in 2012 and have used it since. I love working with inner parts and a big part of my approach is cultivating inner wisdom and connection to self.

Issues I Treat

Specialties

  • Eating Disorder External link

I have many years of experience working with individuals who suffer from the full range of eating disorders, including ARFID. I have worked at partial-hospitalization, intensive outpatient, and outpatient levels of care. Many of my modalities I believe are excellent for restoring the lost sense of self that eating disorders tend to dismantle. I also work with folks on body image concerns and body dysmorphia.

  • Women's Issues External link

Therapy can bring up vulnerable topics and I find that my expertise is tailored towards the issues and pressures women face in western culture. My appraoches aim to connect to creativity, intuition, spirituality, self-awareness, sexuality, identity, purpose, relationships, and meaning.

  • Personal Growth External link

Often times underlying depression, trauma, and rock bottom moments in life is a calling to grow. I often use tools to facilitate change in therapy, and help clients find resources and supports to make change. I meet my clients where they are at and offer them tools that I believe will help them make successful changes to live a healthier and more fulfilling life. For therapy to be helpful, I believe one must have the willingness to change. I'm a big fan of small steps that are achievable.

  • PTSD External link

Many, if not all, of my clients have suffered from neglect, abuse, loss, and trauma. I find that my approaches are very helpful for integrating the shadow. I use re-parenting tools with IFS to discover split off parts of psyche and help to bring them back into the integrated personality. Therapy with me involves imaginative work, because the imagination can access the nonverbal part of psyche where trauma is stored, as can art therapy.
