My Ideal Client

I specialize in working with people experiencing anxiety and depression. However, I see clients with a wide variety of difficulties, including relationship concerns, self-esteem and shame, and trauma. Additionally, I often see clients with a diverse range of sexual orientations and gender identities, and with clients in non-monogamous relationships.

My Approach to Helping

I aim to create a safe, accepting, and non-judgmental place for you to explore your feelings and all parts of yourself. I work from psychodynamic and humanistic perspectives. This means that I will help you explore the ways your past experiences and relationships may affect your current ones, allowing you to change the patterns in your life that are not working for you. Additionally, I will work with you as a whole and multifaceted person with all of your challenges, strengths, and complexities. I also help clients learn cognitive-behavioral and mindfulness skills as a supplement to the other work we do in therapy. These techniques can help you feel better quickly and may have powerful, positive ripple effects in other parts of your life.

My Personal Beliefs and Interests

I received my doctorate in clinical psychology from Pacific University and completed my postdoctoral training at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. I have practiced both research and therapy with a variety of clients in university and community clinics in Oregon and Illinois. I'm also a queer professional, and I am passionate about social justice, mutual aid work, and climate activism.

Issues I Treat

  • Depression External link

I specialize in working with clients experiencing depression, anxiety, or a combination of the two. Depression can be incredibly debilitating and painful, but it is also treatable. The techniques I use with depressed clients focus on understanding depressive thought patterns and changing the behavior cycles that of perpetuate depression.

  • Anxiety External link

Anxiety and depression occur together frequently, but may occur separately as well. The techniques I use with anxious clients include mindfulness-based exercises to manage symptoms, changing the cognitive distortions that feed anxiety, and learning scientifically-supported behavioral strategies to reduce anxious thoughts and feelings.
