My Ideal Client

I take pride in knowing that I can connect with anyone. I have 15 years of experience working in various settings, including group homes, residential treatment, and outpatient-based community mental health. I have been a houseparent for foster youth in San Diego, a skills trainer for at-risk youth in Oregon, and a therapist for 3 years. I also worked at summer camps with small children. I'm raising two kids, have been divorced, and have had heartache.

My Approach to Helping

My therapeutic style is fundamentally Socratic, which means it's slow, methodical, curious, patient, and humble. Every part of you is welcome here. I encourage you to reflect on your own thoughts and to explore the aspects of yourself in a new way. My approach draws from (internal) family systems theory, relational life therapy (RLT), CBT/DBT, and ancient wisdom. I'm also pragmatic. I use Feedback-Informed Treatment. I'll ask you to complete routine outcome measures (ROMs) to track your progress and tailor therapy to your needs. Each session, you'll have the opportunity to offer feedback so that I can feedforward. When the opportunity arises, I'll be happy to coach you. I also believe that physical health is integral to mental health. Although not a trained medical doctor, I'm self-educated and have an abiding interest in holistic health. I will encourage you to consider how they are linked and support you in being more integrated: mind, body, and soul.

Why I Became a Therapist

I was born in a small town in Montana and was raised in a big city in Arizona. My early childhood was chaotic, troubled, and traumatic. If you're familiar with the Adverse Childhood Experiences Questionnaire, I score a 7 out of 10. This suffering was a blessing in disguise because it taught me valuable lessons about vulnerability, compassion, courage, and forgiveness. It also bolstered my confidence that being fulfilled is achievable for anyone who examines themselves, thinks differently, and then takes action to live out their true nature. I have always been drawn to philosophical books and ideas, but I've grown to love the philosophical action (psychotherapy). I love figuring out how to help people discover how to live life well. My life and interests naturally led me to become a therapist.
