My Ideal Client

Humor is something I like to incorporate into therapy; however, we can be serious about your concerns too. People of all ages struggle with the human universal of suffering and sometimes you need someone to sit with you in that, whether it be something you wish to change, or something that you cannot. The systems we live within often teach us to feel alone in our suffering. I'm here to show you that this does not have to be the case.

My Background

I provide both short-term and long-term therapy for a variety of issues, including depression, anxiety, and trauma. However, I believe that I have particular skills around supporting people navigating grief, traumatic loss, as well as substance use concerns. Much of my training/experience has been within college-counseling centers along with in-patient substance use treatment, where I ran multiple therapy groups for both grief and trauma. Our initial sessions will focus on finding what works best for you based upon your needs and goals. While I prefer to work from a Trauma-Informed Gestalt therapy perspective (viewing things as interconnected and contextual), I also draw upon ACT and CBT depending on each individual person with whom I'm working. At the beginning, we'll work to identify how directive or non-directive you wish therapy to be and whether you desire to learn skills or focus on deeper exploration.

My Personal Beliefs and Interests

I approach all of my work using a liberation psychology-based lens and strongly believe that much of the suffering people experience happens within the context of oppressive systems such as Capitalism, systemic racism, sexism, homophobia, and transphobia. I avoid using gendered pronouns (unless asked to do so by my clients) within my documentation so as to protect the confidentiality of those with which I work. I believe in affirming all held identities of my clients. I also recognize how financially stressful therapy can be and am happy to discuss sliding scale options with any potential client.

I have previously run a Living with Loss support group while also supporting individual clients in their grief. I have found that my general approach to therapy works well in helping people navigate grief and loss, and have received strong, positive feedback from clients about our work in this area.
