My Ideal Client

The majority of my clients are young and middle-aged adults from diverse cultural and racial backgrounds. In service of my commitment to equitable care, I prioritize supporting individuals from historically marginalized communities, as well as those with specific cultural needs.

My Approach to Helping

I approach my work with compassion, full presence, and a nonjudgmental, strengths-based perspective. I am deeply committed to supporting individuals in their journey toward healing and self-acceptance, and I honor the trust it takes to engage in that process. I tailor care to each person’s needs, integrating EMDR, Somatic Experiencing (SE), Motivational Interviewing, and mindfulness-based approaches. My experience includes working with diverse populations such as domestic violence survivors, unaccompanied immigrant and refugee youth, and individuals facing trauma, grief, depression, substance use, psychosis, and anxiety. I also hold awareness of the impact of systemic oppression and trauma, and I strive to center each person’s resilience, values, and existing strengths in the healing process.

My Values as a Therapist

My approach is person-centered and grounded in compassion, honoring each individual’s unique experience and capacity for healing. I view humans as inherently social beings shaped by their environments, and I recognize the strong connection between mind and body. Trauma can become stored in the body as a survival response, and without adequate support, it may contribute to challenges such as anxiety, depression, PTSD, substance use, and other mental and physical health concerns.

Techniques I Use

Specialties

  • EMDR External link

I completed my Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) basic training in 2012–2013 through the EMDR Humanitarian Assistance Program. I have also pursued advanced EMDR trainings, including EMDR for sexual trauma, EMDR with ego states, EMDR for psychosis, and EMDR 2.0, allowing me to tailor treatment to a wide range of complex clinical presentations.

  • Somatic Therapy (Body Centered) External link

I am a Somatic Experiencing (SE) practitioner. I have received the 3-year professional training from SE International. SE is a body-oriented therapeutic approach for trauma healing.

  • Mindfulness-based External link

I have employed Mindfulness practices in my work since 2012. I have attended a DBT mindfulness training through the Behavioral Tech in 2012 and a mindfulness training in 2016 through PESI.

Issues I Treat

Specialties

  • Cultural and Systemic Oppression External link

I have 6 years of experience working with immigrants and people of color. I have a PhD in Clinical Psychology and Culture, and I am knowledgeable about issues of systemic oppression. Having come to the U.S. as an immigrant from Brazil myself, I have a deep understanding of the challenges of adjusting to a new country or being part of a historically marginalized group.

  • Spirituality External link

I have a PhD in Clinical Psychology and Culture. Spirituality is a important cultural component. My dissertation explores spirituality, religion, and substance use problems.

  • PTSD External link

I have extensive experience supporting individuals with PTSD and complex trauma, including unaccompanied immigrants, refugees, young adults with severe mental illness, and clients in crisis settings. I help clients process overwhelming experiences, reduce distress, and build resilience and a greater sense of safety, using a trauma-focused approach that integrates EMDR and Somatic Experiencing (SEP).

  • Depression External link

I am trained in EMDR and Mindfulness practices to manage symptoms of depression specifically. I have also provided services to individuals with a history of depression and worked as a crisis therapist from 2018 to 2020. I also am specialized in risk assessments and working with individuals who are considering suicide.
