My Ideal Client

In today's world, it is not uncommon for children to experience anxiety and/or depression at an early age. Whether it be transitions (small or large), divorce, moving, sibling rivalry, school issues, over or under stimulation at school/home or living in today's post-COVID world, I provide a multitude of opportunities for them to express themselves to help them process the world around them. Using both a directive and non-directive approach, my goal is to support and validate all feelings.

My Background

I am a graduate of Texas Woman’s University with a Master’s of Science in Counseling and development. I work with a variety of populations including, but not limited to, children (2+), adolescents and adults with a variety of presenting issues. In addition to counseling, I am a former early childhood educator with a Master’s in Early Childhood Education with 15 years of early childhood experience, stateside and international. I began my mental health experience in 2017 where I started work as a Program Specialist on the inpatient unit in Psychiatry at Cook Children’s Medical Center in Ft. Worth, TX. While attending graduate school, I worked with children ages 3-12 with a multitude of issues including behavioral, trauma, abuse and neglect, who were in the foster care system. In addition, I am able to work with families who wish to strengthen their child/parent relationship to help better understand the dynamics that make up a family system.

My Personal Beliefs and Interests

I have a strong passion for guiding, supporting and interacting with young children and feel that early intervention plays an integral part of their healthy development. My nurturing personality help them to become confident and comfortable with themselves. I believe that children communicate through play and real life experiences, giving them the ability to express themselves freely and openly. As a former early childhood educator, I felt that play was an integral part of the program and that it enabled them to become empathetic and compassionate towards others. Using this natural language, children process the world around them and the experiences they endure as well as learn how to communicate effectively and become risk-takers in their everyday lives.

Techniques I Use

Specialties

  • Play Therapy  External link

I have worked with a multitude of populations ages 3-12 using play therapy interventions. I primarily use Child Centered Play Therapy (CCPT) which is a non-directive intervention that allows the child to explore and lead the session. I provide a safe and nonjudgmental space for young children to use the environment and materials to help process their feelings and emotions.
