My Ideal Client

Is food constantly on your mind? Do you avoid certain foods due to a fear of weight gain? Do certain foods cause you to feel guilt and shame? Do you sometimes feel out-of-control around food, as though you literally cannot stop eating? Do you feel uncomfortable in your skin? Are you tired of feeling stuck and exhausted? Freedom from restriction, binge eating, purging, food fears and dieting is possible, and your journey to freedom starts here.

How I Can Help You

I am a Registered Counseling Associate, a Certified Nutrition Therapy Practitioner, and a former personal trainer. Using a HAES, emotions focused and body centered approach, I will help you reconnect with your bodily signals, process your underlying trauma (including religious trauma and complex trauma), increase your sense of body trust and safety, and identify alternative coping skills. I will help you to ditch the diet, overcome food fears, end restriction, and conquer binge eating. My therapeutic approach is attachment-based, trauma-informed, and person-centered. My primary theoretical orientations include Emotion Focused Individual Therapy (EFIT), Somatic Experiencing, and Internal Family Systems. In essence, these approaches are experiential, “bottom-up” processing therapies that honor the wisdom of your body. These approaches help you to access, process, and transform the emotional experiences that are contributing to your eating disorder behaviors and body image challenges.

My Personal Beliefs and Interests

In addition to working with eating disorders in the general population, I specialize in treating eating disorders amongst athletes. As a lifelong athlete, a former coach, and someone who has recovered from an eating disorder myself, I understand the additional challenges that athletes face and the ways in which these challenges can impact one's relationship with food and body. The intersection of athletic performance, body expectations, and eating disorders requires specialized understanding. I bring both professional training and lived experience to this work. Further, my background in sports-related nutritional therapy allows me to integrate my counseling approach with my understanding of sport-specific fueling needs. In conjunction with a dietitian, I often work to address conditions such Relative Energy Deficiency in Sport (RED-S). Whether or not you are an athlete, I believe that humans are embodied beings, and I acknowledge and honor all parts of you within the therapy room.

I have worked with eating disorders at the outpatient level for 2.5 years. In addition, I worked with disordered eating as a Nutritionist for 7 years. I am well-versed in issues surrounding food and body. When treating eating disorders, I utilize "bottom-up" processing therapies that honor the wisdom of your body. These approaches help you to increase your sense of body trust and safety and transform the emotional experiences underlying your symptoms.
