My Background and Approach

My clients describe me as down to earth and relatable. I use an eclectic approach of therapy models to meet the needs of my clients, including CBT, family systems therapy, and trauma-informed attachment theory. When I work with children, I value parent participation. I understand that you are your child's #1 supporter, but that may need some assistance knowing how help. I also enjoy working with individuals and families who are adjusting to a pregnancy or a new addition to the family. I strive to help my clients understand what is normal, help make positive changes, and hold hope when you might feel hopeless.

My Personal Beliefs and Interests

I received my MS in Counseling Psychology from Alaska Pacific University in 2005. I have worked in a variety of settings, including schools, residential treatment, mobile crisis intervention, and outpatient mental health therapy. I participated in certification training from Postpartum Support International on maternal mental health and perinatal mood disorders. I have also completed certification in family therapy for foster and adoptive families, offered by PSU and DHS. I am contracted with OHP HealthShare as an exceptional needs provider. Please be aware that I may only be authorized to treat HealthShare members whose needs fall under my specialties, and at the discretion of OHP. Please contact me for a brief phone consult to determine if my expertise matches your needs.

Issues I Treat

Specialties

  • Postpartum External link

I enjoy working with new parents through pregnancy, postpartum and beyond. While a new baby is something to be celebrated, the adjustment to parenthood, changes in family dynamics, social isolation and hormonal factors can be overwhelming. I work to help normalize your experience and develop strategies to receive the care you deserve.

  • Adoption Issues External link

Children who have experienced trauma or disrupted attachment may have unique vulnerabilities or behavioral challenges. I work to support families with understanding and responding to their child's needs through a trauma-informed lens. I have completed certification training on Family Therapy for Foster and Adoption, provided by PSU and DHS.

  • LGBTQ Issues External link

As the parent of a transgender child, am aware of the unique needs that present themselves to those who are adjusting to a family member's transition. It is important for the support people to have access to their own supports to be able to process emotions, fears, values and beliefs. I provide a safe place to process your own transition through a family member's transition.

  • PTSD External link

I am trained in EMDR therapy, which is shown to be very effective in developing skills to regulate emotions and nervous system responses, challenge negative beliefs about ourselves, and be able to experience present safety. I work with those who have experienced single event trauma, as well as trauma related to violence, childhood abuse, attachment injury, and others.
