My Ideal Client

Do you have chronic pain and feel like all you can do is just "live with it" or "learn to manage it", feeling like no one can help? Do you have sexual challenges, struggling with pain, shame, anxiety or body image difficulties? Are you struggling with sexual or gender identity, needing support around coming out or transitioning and feeling safe and accepted? You don't have to struggle alone with these challenges, and I am passionate about helping you live a more authentic, fulfilling life.

My Approach to Helping

In my practice, I blend the transformative power of Internal Family Systems (IFS) and attachment-based therapy with the deep bodily awareness fostered by somatic therapies, including Pain Reprocessing Therapy (PRT), emotional awareness/expression therapy, polyvagal therapy, mindfulness and self-compassion approaches. This combination offers a holistic path to healing, integrating both the mind and the body in the therapeutic process, particularly those struggling with chronic pain or sexual issues. I also incorporate many of these therapies in supporting those who experience developmental or interpersonal trauma that may be underlying chronic pain or sexual difficulties. In my passion in working with the LGBTQ+ community, I find many of these therapies vital to address the various mental or physical challenges these communities may face and support holistic healing and growth.

My Personal Beliefs and Interests

I believe that no matter how long someone has struggled, they always have the capacity to change given the right tools and support. Context matters, and when given the right support and resources, profound healing can happen. I have such a passion in working with those with chronic pain, sexual challenges and the LGBTQ+ community because so often these individuals are overlooked in mainstream medicine or not adequately supported from a holistic perspective. Further, often times there are so many developmental experiences such a trauma that have led to struggles in these communities that need adequate support and care. As someone who has also shared these difficulties, I know how vital it is to have someone who can understand, empathize and believe in your healing and support your journey in providing you the best tools possible to take care of your mental and physical health.

Techniques I Use

Specialties

  • Somatic Therapy (Body Centered) External link

I provide somatic therapies rooted in understanding the role of the brain and nervous system and its impact on physical health. A key component of Pain Reprocessing Therapy (PRT) is employing the role of neuroplasticity and the brain's ability to change and form new pathways that are vital in healing chronic pain and its underlying roots, and creating safety in the body and mind to change the way in which the brain responses to pain and threat broadly, and instead create safety.

  • Internal Family Systems (IFS) External link

IFS helps you recognize and understand your various internal 'parts' that can be influencing mental and physical health challenges like trauma, sexual issues or chronic pain, leading to more self-awareness and healing. IFS promotes a balance amongst these parts to create safety within that comes from developing a sense of self that can regulate mental and physical health challenges.

  • Attachment Theory External link

This therapy helps us understand and improve your attachment style that is formed in early relationships. It helps resolve relationship difficulties by fostering secure connections, enhancing emotional understanding, and communication skills. This therapy addresses trust issues, dependency, and intimacy challenges, leading to healthier, more fulfilling relationships. By exploring past patterns, you learn to form stronger, more secure emotional bonds in your current and future relationships.

  • Emotionally Focused External link

EF therapies help with chronic pain, sexual issues, and relationship problems by fostering emotional awareness and expression, as well as identifying and transforming negative patterns, enhancing emotional support and intimacy. In chronic pain treatment, EF therapies reduces stress and emotional roots underlying pain. For sexual issues, it improves communication and emotional connection, enhancing intimacy, strengthens bonds, resolving conflicts, and deepening trust in relationships.

  • Eclectic External link

My goal is to tailor treatment to meet the unique needs of my clients. I have vast training in other therapies that can support the diverse mental or physical health challenges that can arise, and can provide help with cognitive restructuring, emotional regulation, mindfulness and acceptance, including Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Dialectical Behavioral Therapy and Acceptance & Commitment Therapy. These therapies are useful in supporting overall cognitive, emotional and behavioral wellness.
