Techniques I Use

Specialties

  • Cognitive Behavioral (CBT) External link

Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) is a structured therapeutic approach with the emphasis of psychotherapy on the present and focuses on teaching skills to change unhealthy thinking and behaviors. CBT is an evidence-based and highly effective approach to counseling.

  • Mindfulness-based External link

Mindfulness and Acceptance based approaches to counseling can also be very effective. I infuse these elements into my practice, including relaxation training, breathing exercises, visualization, and accepting or acknowledging the difficult aspects of our lives without judgement. With Mindfulness you can learn to pay attention to thoughts and feelings with acceptance and non-judgement.

  • Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) External link

Dialectical Behavior Therapy is a set of skills that are focused on distress tolerance, emotion regulation, and interpersonal effectiveness. These skills also incorporate a mindfulness component.

Issues I Treat

Specialties

  • Women's Issues External link

I really enjoy working with and empowering women. Women face many unique challenges in a patriarchal society and our experiences in this world are colored by our culture and our roles. Whether dealing with general life stressors, discrimination, women's rights, balancing work/home life, parenting, divorce/uncoupling, navigating relationships, etc. A feminist and equality lens I believe is beneficial for everyone.

  • Anxiety External link

Whether due to stressors, life changes, or feeling overwhelmed by everyday life, anxiety can crop up in our lives in many ways and for some it can become debilitating. CBT is very effective for the many different manifestations of anxiety. I'm also trained and experienced in exposure therapy which is one of the primary evidence based treatments for certain types of anxiety disorders. I especially enjoy working with individuals who experience Social Phobia and Generalized Anxiety.

  • Domestic Abuse External link

Working with survivors of abusive relationships, domestic violence and coercive control including verbal, emotional, and psychological abuse is one of my specialties. I am experienced in supporting individuals whose partners are exhibiting manipulative and controlling behaviors.
