My Ideal Client

Anxiety sucks, let's face it. If you're sick of using coping skills that only seem to scratch the surface and you're ready to experience healing and relief, together we will help you get your life back and put anxiety back in its place! Learning to understand the mechanisms that keep the anxiety cycle maintained and breaking them by facing fears can be scary, but you have more courage than you may even know.

My Approach to Helping

I use humor, compassion, and a soft but direct approach to helping my clients find freedom and heal from anxiety disorders, depression, and life transitions. I use effective treatment methods (CBT, ERP) that help you get back to living your life faster and spend less time on my couch! I understand how scary and overwhelming living with anxiety can be. Often, the things that we are worried about are things that have happened before (like a panic attack or social judgement) and are strong in our memories. Challenging these fears can seem daunting, to say the least, and it can feel like a losing battle. Together, we will raise your hopefulness and get you back to living life in control.

My Personal Beliefs and Interests

I have been working in mental health for over 10 years, starting out in psychiatric residential treatment and inpatient programs. I received my Masters in Professional Mental Health Counseling from Lewis and Clark and am licensed in both Oregon and Washington. I love working with adolescents and families as well as emerging adults. As a therapist, I have worked in residential treatment, the school setting, outpatient and private practice. I have expertise in treating OCD and anxiety disorders and have trained with the BTTI (Behavioral Therapy Training Institute) through the IOCDF.

Techniques I Use

Specialties

  • Exposure and Response Prevention Therapy External link

Exposure and Response Prevention (ERP) is considered the gold standard treatment for OCD. While seemingly straight forward, the ideas behind how to utilize this method are nuanced and talking back to OCD can be tricky. We get creative together! ERP helps you learn to face your fear while preventing you from engaging in the compulsions (or responses) that maintain the fear. Consent is of utmost importance and you have the final say in readiness and motivation to face your fear head on.

  • Cognitive Behavioral (CBT) External link

Cognitive Behavioral Therapy can help you identify the connection between your thoughts, feelings and behaviors to help you better challenge negative thought patterns and create healthier thoughts and actions to combat anxiety and depression.

  • Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) External link

Acceptance of the unknown can be daunting and overwhelming, but ultimately leads to freedom and relief. ACT is often a very helpful adjunct to ERP and CBT when treating OCD and anxiety.

  • Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) External link

Dialectical Behavior Therapy can be very effective at helping you manage overwhelming feelings, irritability, depression and anxiety. If you are struggling with chronic suicidal ideation or self-harm behavior, I can help you learn the DBT skills to weather these emotional storms safely.

  • Eclectic External link

I believe in meeting clients where they are at and helping each and every person succeed in therapy. Sometimes that means using different approaches, such as CPS (Collaborative Problem Solving), expressive arts, solution focused, motivational interviewing or a narrative style.

Issues I Treat

Specialties

  • OCD External link

I am BTTI (Behavior Therapy Training Institute) certified to treat OCD. This includes a combination of using Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) and Exposure and Response Prevention (ERP) therapy, which is the gold standard treatment for OCD. ERP helps you to build tolerance to the feelings of anxiety and panic that can occur.

  • Anxiety External link

Anxiety is one of the most commonly experienced human emotions. However, if you are feeling worried more often than not, if reassurance and checking is no longer helping reduce anxiety, or you find yourself avoiding things that might cause anxiety, you may be experiencing symptoms of an anxiety disorder. Therapy can help you regain control of your life and put your anxiety back in it's place.

  • Panic External link

If you have experienced panic attacks and are constantly worried about having another one or avoiding places or situations in which you've had a panic attack before, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy can help. I can help you regain your life and control your symptoms. Together, we will work to increase your ability to tolerate these really uncomfortable feelings and help you get back to living fully!

  • Social Phobia External link

Second guessing yourself, worried about people judging you, difficulty ordering for yourself or speaking in public? You may be experiencing social anxiety (social phobia). Social anxiety can take many forms and you may be experiencing it even if you consider yourself extroverted or have many close friends. Cognitive Behavioral Therapy can help you work through these worries and build resilience.

  • Depression External link

Sometimes life can feel like too much. You lose motivation and things you used to enjoy become hard to do or tiresome. I can help you find your hopefulness and get your energy back.
