My Ideal Client

I offer individual art therapy to adults and specialize in the treatment of trauma, low self-esteem, existential issues and life transitions. This may include healing work as a result of a current or past abusive relationship, of which I bring specialized experience. I also aim to create an inclusive space for BIPOC, LGBTQ folks, and individuals with disabilities.

How I Can Help You

I believe that to be human is to experience suffering. I also believe that to be human is to experience love, joy, and meaning. My job is to support you in coping with the former and widening your heart to the latter. I will work with you to address the barriers to living a more vibrant life. You have the tools to unlearn the many layers that have taught you to believe that you are unworthy, and to ultimately excavate your true and wondrous self. My work is built upon the idea that our bodies and minds hold untapped wisdom to reveal to us through the creative act and in a safe therapeutic relationship. Art therapy is a unique and powerful vehicle for exploration and transformation of the self. From stick figures to self-portraits, from scribbles to sculptures, all forms of expression hold value.

My Personal Beliefs and Interests

I became an art therapist because I learned from a young age the healing magic of art and creativity. Making art has helped me immensely in connecting with myself and with soothing myself during difficult times. These days, I like to paint, draw, and collage in my home studio. When I'm not making art, I like to practice yoga, go camping, and hang out with my corgi. Learning is also important to me. To support my work, I am currently furthering my knowledge on interpersonal neurobiology, sensorimotor psychotherapy, as well as social justice and anti-racism foundations for mental healthcare. I seek supervision and consultation often.

Techniques I Use

Specialties

  • Art Therapy External link

I am a licensed art therapist with the State of Oregon and I am a registered art therapist with the American Art Therapy Credentials Board. I have been practicing art therapy for over 8 years.

  • Mindfulness-based External link

I have been introducing the concept of mindfulness to clients for several years now and integrating mindfulness meditations when applicable. Much of my art therapy approach is tightly woven with mindfulness.

  • Existential External link

Meaning, purpose, and our spiritual beliefs can be hugely influential on our life paths. I utilize foundations of existential therapy to inform the way that I guide you in grappling with common human fears and struggles.

  • Attachment Theory External link

This has consistently been a driving theory in my work with adults. Your early childhood relationships impact how you relate to others today, and this is essential to be explored to improve your own resiliency.

  • Motivational Interviewing External link

Much of my experience has been with individuals who are stuck in a pattern of repeated crisis. I use motivational interviewing often to cultivate introspection and identify changes that may need to occur.
