My Ideal Client

I work with adults who are capable, driven, and accustomed to handling things on their own, but may be struggling with anxiety, burnout, overthinking, work stress, life transitions, or habits that are difficult to change. Sometimes the problem is clear. Other times, life looks good on paper, but something feels wrong. I have particular interests in the pressures of achievement, behavioral addictions, and our increasingly complicated relationships with technology.

My Approach to Helping

My approach is collaborative, practical, and grounded in a strong therapeutic relationship. I believe a strong therapeutic relationship provides the foundation for significant change, and I work to understand not only what is happening, but what may be keeping you stuck. Together, we’ll identify what matters most to you and develop realistic ways to move toward it. I draw from cognitive behavioral, solution-focused, interpersonal, and motivational approaches, but I don’t believe therapy should feel like a collection of techniques. I value curiosity, humor, directness, and thoughtful reflection. I’ll ask questions, offer observations, and sometimes challenge you while recognizing that you are the expert on your own life. My goal is for therapy to help you understand yourself more deeply while also creating impactful change outside the therapy room.

Why I am a Good Fit for You

We may be a good fit if you’re looking for thoughtful, engaged, practical therapy. I tend to work well with people who are curious about themselves and want to understand not only how they feel, but why certain patterns keep showing up and what they can do differently. You don’t need to arrive knowing exactly what you want to change. I’m comfortable working with complexity and with people whose lives may look quite successful from the outside. I won’t assume that achievement means everything is fine—or that every struggle needs a diagnosis. I bring warmth and humor to the work, but I’m also willing to ask difficult questions and respectfully challenge you when it's useful. If you want a therapist who will be sincerely engaged with you rather than simply nodding from across the room, we may work well together.

Issues I Treat

Specialties

  • Internet Addiction External link

I have extensive clinical experience with behavioral addictions and problematic technology use. I previously developed and directed a counseling clinic specifically focused on excessive gaming and technology use. My approach emphasizes understanding technology's role in a person’s life rather than assuming all heavy use is inherently problematic.

  • Alcohol Abuse and Alcohol Dependence External link

I am a CADC III with extensive clinical experience working with substance use and addiction across a range of treatment settings. I have advanced training and experience in motivational interviewing and take a collaborative, nonjudgmental approach to change. I work with clients across the spectrum, from questioning their relationship with alcohol or other substances to addressing more significant substance-related concerns.

  • Drug Dependence / Abuse / Addiction External link

My experience includes working with people across the continuum of substance use, from early concerns to more significant dependence and addiction. I have worked in community treatment, criminal justice/reentry, and integrated health settings, including with clients experiencing co-occurring mental health and substance use concerns. I approach substance use with curiosity and without judgment, recognizing that change can take many forms.

  • Anxiety External link

I have extensive clinical experience working with anxiety and related concerns across community mental health and private practice settings. My doctoral and professional training includes evidence-based counseling approaches, including cognitive-behavioral and interpersonal strategies, as well as motivational interviewing. I also bring particular expertise in anxiety connected to work, achievement, life transitions, and behavioral patterns that can become difficult to change.
