My Ideal Client

I work with clients who are ready to do the hard work of change. My ideal clients come to therapy genuinely motivated to improve their relationships and lives, even when struggling with deep pain or long-standing patterns. They want communication skills that actually work, tools to break destructive cycles, and the ability to show up authentically in their relationships. My most successful clients can handle direct feedback and are committed to practicing new skills between sessions.

My Approach to Helping

Are you tired of having the same fights over and over? Do you feel disconnected from your partner despite loving them deeply? Maybe you're struggling with anxiety that's affecting your relationships, or you keep falling into old patterns that leave you feeling stuck and frustrated. I work with couples who want to break destructive communication cycles and individuals ready to heal from difficult relationships or family stress. My clients don't just want to feel better temporarily - they want real tools that create lasting change. They're willing to look honestly at their own contributions to problems and practice new skills between sessions. Whether you're dealing with trust issues, attachment struggles, boundaries, or just feeling overwhelmed by life's pressures, I help people move from surviving to thriving in their relationships and personal lives.

Why I Became a Therapist

I come from a family of mental health professionals - my wife is also a therapist, two of my sisters work in the field, and my father is a retired psychologist. But what really drew me to this work was seeing how much unnecessary pain people carry when they don't have the right tools. I believe everyone can change and grow, but only when they're willing to look honestly at their patterns and do the hard work of building new ones. I believe in honesty, structure, and compassion. Most relationship problems aren't mysteries - they're patterns that can be understood and changed with the right approach. I don't think people need years of therapy to see real improvement. What they need is someone who will meet them where they are but won't let them stay stuck there. I'm influenced by the compassion of Carl Rogers, the practical skills of Aaron Beck, and the wisdom of Pema Chödrön.

Techniques I Use

Specialties

  • Gottman Method External link

As one of the few Certified Gottman Therapists in Oregon, I use research-based techniques to help couples break destructive communication patterns and rebuild connection. The Gottman Method gives us concrete tools to identify what's really going wrong in your relationship and practical skills to change it. This isn't about endless talking - it's about learning specific techniques that actually work to improve intimacy and resolve conflict.

  • Cognitive Behavioral (CBT) External link

CBT helps you understand the connection between your thoughts, feelings, and behaviors. I use CBT techniques to help clients identify negative thought patterns, challenge unhelpful beliefs, and develop practical coping strategies. Whether you're dealing with anxiety, depression, or relationship issues, CBT gives you concrete tools to change how you respond to life's challenges and break cycles that keep you stuck.

  • Internal Family Systems (IFS) External link

IFS helps you understand the different "parts" of yourself - the inner critic, the people-pleaser, the protector. I use IFS to help clients develop self-compassion, heal from trauma, and stop being at war with themselves. This approach is particularly helpful for people who struggle with anxiety, codependency, or feeling like they're constantly fighting internal battles. It's about finding your authentic self.

  • Attachment Theory External link

Understanding your attachment style explains so much about your relationship patterns. I help clients identify whether they're anxious, avoidant, or secure in relationships and learn how to develop healthier connection patterns. This work is transformative for people who keep repeating the same relationship problems or struggle with intimacy, boundaries, or trust. Knowledge of your attachment style is the key to changing it.

  • Couples Counseling External link

I specialize in helping couples who are tired of the same fights and want real change. My approach combines Gottman techniques with practical communication skills to help partners understand each other's needs and build stronger connection. Whether you're dealing with trust issues, constant conflict, or just feeling like roommates, couples counseling can transform your relationship when both partners are committed to the work.RetryClaude can make mistakes. Issues I Treat

Specialties

  • Relationship / Marriage Issues External link

I'm a Certified Gottman Therapist specializing in couples who want to break destructive communication patterns. Whether you're dealing with trust issues, constant conflict, or feeling disconnected despite loving each other, I help partners learn skills that actually work. My approach is direct and practical - we identify what's really going wrong, why the same fights keep happening, and give you concrete tools to change those patterns. Most couples see improvement within the first few sessions.

  • Anxiety External link

Anxiety doesn't have to control your life or relationships. I work with people whose worry and fear interfere with their daily functioning, relationships, or decision-making. Using CBT and practical coping strategies, we'll identify your anxiety triggers, understand the thought patterns that fuel your worry, and develop tools to manage symptoms effectively. My goal isn't just to help you cope - it's to help you build confidence and take back control of your life.

  • Codependency External link

If you're constantly putting others' needs before your own, struggling with boundaries, or feeling responsible for everyone else's emotions, we need to talk. I help people recognize codependent patterns, learn to set healthy boundaries, and develop a stronger sense of self. This work often transforms not just your relationships, but your entire approach to life. You can care about others without losing yourself in the process.

  • Personal Growth External link

Ready to stop repeating the same patterns and actually become the person you want to be? I work with motivated individuals who want to understand themselves better, break old habits, and build more authentic relationships. Whether you're dealing with people-pleasing, attachment issues, or just feeling stuck, we'll identify what's holding you back and create concrete steps for change. This isn't about endless self-exploration - it's about real transformation.

  • Depression External link

Depression often shows up as feeling stuck, disconnected, or like you're just going through the motions. I help people understand what's contributing to their depression and develop practical strategies to feel more engaged with life. We'll work on changing thought patterns, building meaningful connections, and creating structure that supports your mental health. My approach is compassionate but action-oriented - we focus on what you can do today to start feeling better.
