My Ideal Client

Are you looking for a therapist who you can talk to about your spirituality, mystical experiences, or intuitive gifts without being pathologized? Have you had an overwhelming experience with psychedelics and need a space to integrate through counseling or art therapy? Would you like to meet in a unique art and healing space <a href=" https://thehavenpdx.com> Here</a> ? Are you an experienced psychonaut or recentIy awakened? If you answered yes to any of those then we might be a good fit!

My Approach to Helping

We heal in connection with others and when we feel deeply seen and safe. I approach therapy as a relationship with the potential to provide healing space for the client once trust is developed, within a safely held container. I tend to work with people somewhat long term, between 6 months to several years, although sometimes shorter term work is appropriate. For people who need to go deep in therapy, I can go there with you and I can also have patience with the non-linear way that the healing journey often unfolds. I rely on my intuition as well as my extensive clinical training as a therapist to support, challenge, or simply witness.

My Personal Beliefs and Interests

I became an art therapist after first majoring in art in college, but finding that I really enjoyed psychology as well. I have also always been interested in mysticism and how there are many ways we can understand the truth. I learned of art therapy around the same time I learned about psychedelic healing, around 2003. This led me to pursue a MA in art therapy with the intent to at some point become a psychedelic therapist, even though at that time it was not a recognized career path. I trained in MDMA Assisted Psychotherapy in 2018 and am looking forward to legally working with this medicine. I'm also a painter and resident artist at The Haven, where I also have my therapy office. Art making, and painting in particular has been a personal path for me that is about much more than the finished work. I use it to process emotions and experiences, to move energy and to just enjoy the process of creation!

Techniques I Use

Specialties

  • EMDR External link

I have completed the basic EMDR training (40 hours plus supervision) through the EMDR International Association, and have been practicing with this modality since 2016. EMDR is believed to activate the nervous system to move traumatic experiences from being stored in the body to the form of narrative memories, and can help relieve hyper vigilance, anxiety, depression, feeling shut down, emotionally overwhelmed and other trauma exposure symptoms.

  • Art Therapy External link

I am a registered art therapist (ATR) and enjoy helping clients engage with their own creative energy to facilitate healing. This may look very different depending on the individual, but can include painting, drawing, collage-making, art journaling, photography, sewing, or sculpture/ mixed media. I generally use the “art as therapy” approach which means that the art-making process itself is heal
