I draw on several important modalities in the work we do together. I have extensive experience utilizing cognitive behavioral techniques, which can help formulate clear goals, and steps to goal achievement. My foundational training employed psychodynamic concepts, which aids in a deeper understanding of what may be causing repeated distress and challenging patterns of behavior. I utilize Emotionally-Focused Therapy when working with couples. I also use art therapy for clients that may have not achieved all they would have hoped for with talk therapy. As well, for clients that are more visually oriented, art therapy can sometimes access subconscious material more quickly.

I am a licensed professional counselor (LPC), as well as a registered, board certified art therapist (ATR-BC). I have a master's degree in counseling and art therapy from Marylhurst University. I have many years of professional experience working in community mental health agencies. My clientele included children, adolescents, adults and families. I have completed two levels of training in Emotionally-Focused Therapy for couples. I offer therapy for adolescents, adults and couples, focusing on depression, anxiety, faulty communication patterns. grief, loss, infertility issues and transitions,

Techniques I Use

Specialties

  • Couples Counseling External link

I love working with couples to help them reduce the angry 'hot spots' that impede connection. Together, we identify triggers and repetitive patterns, and help find ways to rekindle closeness and intimacy.

  • Emotionally Focused External link

I have formal training in Emotionally-Focused Therapy, applied specifically to the work I do with couples. This modality has enhanced my ability to help clients see the foundational causes of the emotion that comes to the surface; the root cause is able to be addressed and remedied. I have been able to apply this theory to all of the clinical work I do.

  • Cognitive Behavioral (CBT) External link

Cognitive Behavioral Therapy was a prominent approach in the 18 years of community mental health work I had the privilege to engage in. I was able to help clients formulate clear goals, develop applicable ways to practice useful techniques, and change thinking patterns that kept clients feeling stuck.

Issues I Treat

Specialties

  • Child or Adolescent Issues External link

I have many years of experience working with adolescents and their families. From crisis counseling to developmental issues, I have helped address a range of concerns for today's adolescent. For eight years, I taught a course on adolescent development and psychopathology at Marylhurst University. I enjoy engaging with the unique challenges of the adolescent stage of life.

  • Relationship / Marriage Issues External link

I have training in emotionally-focused therapy, which helps couples recognize the painful pattern of fighting they get in repeatedly. This approach focuses on how to reconnect with your partner, enhancing the closeness you crave.

  • Loss or Grief External link

I have helped clients express grief over the loss of partners, friends, family members, the ability to have a baby, and pets. I have come to learn that grief comes in myriad forms. I maintain safety and expertise in providing a venue for clients to be heard and express the pain of profound loss.

  • Anxiety External link

Through trainings and professional experience, I have a number of techniques to help clients learn relaxation, mindfulness exercises, and gain a greater understanding of what promotes their anxiety.
