My Ideal Client

I work primarily with adults navigating anxiety, stress, life transitions, and challenges in work, relationships, or family life. My clients may be college students finding their way into adulthood, professionals trying to find more balance or direction, or parents struggling to balance work and family life. I especially enjoy helping parents who want to feel more confident in their decisions and have a happier family.

My Approach to Helping

My approach is collaborative, supportive, and strength-based. I believe therapy can provide an outside perspective that helps you better understand what may be keeping you stuck, recognize strengths you may be overlooking, and find practical ways to move toward the life you want. I have over 20 years of experience in mental health and work primarily with adults who want to feel more confident in their lives—at work, at home, in relationships, or as parents. I draw from a variety of approaches and tailor therapy to the individual rather than assuming that the same approach works for everyone. I offer video sessions and currently have availability for new clients. Feel free to reach out for a free 20-minute consultation to see if we might be a good fit.

Why I Became a Therapist

I have always been interested in how we can make sense of the world and make our lives better. I wanted to understand what helps us overcome challenges, make changes, and move closer to the lives and goals that are important to us. That interest eventually led me to psychology. I began my career working in a group home and went on to earn my doctorate in psychology, eventually providing more specialized support to children and parents. Over the years, my work has increasingly focused on adults and the many challenges and transitions that come with different stages of life. I sincerely believe that everyone can use some extra support at some point. Life includes wonderful experiences, but also periods that are stressful, confusing, and sometimes tragic. I value being able to provide an outside perspective during those times and help people find their footing and move forward.

Issues I Treat

Specialties

  • Anxiety External link

Anxiety can be an important signal that something in our lives needs attention or change. I help clients understand why they are experiencing anxiety and what they can do to reduce it. An outside perspective can help you identify what may be contributing to your anxiety and decide how best to respond. Sometimes that means reducing or changing unnecessary sources of stress; other times, it means finding the confidence and skills to face anxiety-provoking situations rather than avoid them.

  • Depression External link

Depression can develop for many different reasons, and it is normal to have periods of feeling down. When those feelings become too intense or long-lasting, it can be important to understand what may be contributing to them. For some people, depression comes and goes throughout life; for others, it can seem to appear out of the blue. Usually, we can identify concrete strategies to help you feel better day to day, while also exploring bigger issues that may lead to longer-term improvement.

  • Relationship / Marriage Issues External link

Disagreements and conflict can be very challenging. Some people struggle to find a balance between staying quiet to avoid “rocking the boat” and becoming so frustrated that they say more than they intended. Others are dealing with relationships strained or divided by political or cultural differences. Therapy may involve practicing communication skills, perspective-taking, and anxiety reduction, or finding ways to cope with and grieve the loss of an important relationship.

  • Parenting External link

Becoming a parent is a major life transition, full of wonderful and difficult moments. It can be hard to feel like a “good enough” parent and find the right balance between connection and providing structure, boundaries, and leadership. With so much conflicting parenting advice, I help parents sort through what matters most to their family, identify difficult patterns, and find practical ways to handle challenging moments in ways that better reflect their goals.

  • Men's Issues External link

Life can be challenging in different ways for different people. Men haven’t always felt welcome or comfortable seeking therapy, but sometimes it helps to have an outside perspective. I have worked with many men sorting through stress related to work, relationships, family, personal goals, and confidence. Therapy can be a place to think things through, better understand yourself and others, and decide what you want to change or work toward.
