My Approach to Helping

I utilize a cognitive behavioral, solution focused, and mindfulness based approach to facilitating change with my clients meeting in person or online! I draw on my training in Dialectic Behavioral Therapy as well. Initially we will discuss your history, identify goals, and obstacles. Then we will clarify what you have the power to change (Yes, I am a big fan of the Serenity Prayer) and develop step by step plan for getting there. Depending on your goals, we will identify concrete skills, exercises, and behaviors for you to apply between our sessions. Frequency of our meetings can vary. We may meet weekly, every other week, monthly, online or in person as needed depending on your situation and goals. On the business side, I use MindEase Billing Service to submit insurance claims. If we opt to work together, they will call you to get insurance information, then clarify your benefits and let us both know what your financial responsibility will be.

My Personal Beliefs and Interests

I am a licensed professional counselor in the state of OR. I graduated from Lewis & Clark College in 1997 with a MS in Counseling Psychology after obtaining a BA in Biology. I volunteered in domestic violence shelters, worked for Oregon Youth Authority at Hillcrest Youth Correctional Facility, and then in adolescent residential treatment facilities under Morrison Center and Trillium Family services as a therapist and clinical manager. During this time, I studied DBT which fits well with my therapeutic orientation and also became qualified to provide supervision to therapist interns. I entered private practice in 2003 and initially specialized in working with adolescents and their families. I currently focus on helping parents with stress management, relationship, and parenting skills since becoming a parent in 2005. My office is N Portland where I have cultivated a professional community of healing practitioners, whom I share space with at The North Portland Growth Place!
