My Approach to Helping

Therapy can extend beyond the mind by incorporating the body and our experiences. This approach provides us with a more comprehensive understanding, enabling us to make more grounded and intentional choices. It helps us clarify how we want to show up and live the life we’re in.

My Personal Beliefs and Interests

As a white, queer, nonbinary therapist, I recognize that my identity has uniquely shaped my experiences and influences how others perceive and treat me. I understand that privilege extends beyond financial stability; being part of the queer community allows me to create connections and offer support. As a nonbinary individual, I have the privilege of understanding the complexities of both masculinity and femininity. Examining the intersectionality of one's life, culture, and experiences is crucial for me to fully understand you and your place in the world. My whiteness has afforded me significant financial and safety privileges, and I am mindful of the disparities created by Western colonialism that have impacted others.

Techniques I Use

Specialties

  • Attachment Theory External link

I use attachment theory as a foundation to support both individuals and couples. This approach helps us understand how you interact with others and with yourself, offering insight into the patterns and dynamics that influence your relationships. By exploring your attachment style, we can identify and address these patterns, which are often shaped by early interactions with family members and guide how you relate to the world.

  • Experiential External link

I focus on what’s happening in the room to help you better understand yourself and gain more control over your choices and life. Our experience encompasses everything occurring in the room, including our thoughts, feelings, and bodily sensations. By paying attention to these elements, you can explore how they influence your behaviors and decisions, leading to a deeper understanding and more empowered approach to life.

  • Internal Family Systems (IFS) External link

Internal Family Systems (IFS) helps us explore the roles we adopted as children and how these roles might influence our current relationships. This approach fosters compassion and understanding for our inner child, allowing us to address and heal past wounds. By integrating this understanding, we can improve our present relationships and create healthier, more fulfilling connections.

Issues I Treat

Specialties

  • Historical Trauma External link

Since beginning my career, I have specialized in working with PTSD and historical trauma. My focus has been on helping individuals move past their trauma and prevent it from dominating their present experiences. By addressing and processing these painful histories, we can reclaim control over our lives and mitigate the impact of past events. This process allows us to heal and build a more empowered and resilient future.

  • Sexual Abuse External link

I have extensive experience working with adults who have experienced both childhood sexual abuse and recent trauma. My background includes specialized trauma education and training in EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing) therapy. This training equips me with effective tools to help clients process and heal from their traumatic experiences, supporting them in finding relief and reclaiming their lives.

  • Relationship / Marriage Issues External link

I focus on addressing systemic struggles that encompass cultural influences, family dynamics, and interpersonal relationships. I view a couple as comprising three components: the two individuals and the relationship itself. My goal is to help you gain insight into your relationship, identify what is important to you, and determine what changes are needed. I work with each person to articulate their needs and desires, both for yourself and the partnership, facilitating clearer communication.

  • Anxiety External link

Anxiety can make it difficult to connect with ourselves and other. Almost every client I've worked with has faced some form of anxiety, which highlights its pervasive role in our lives. In our sessions, I aim to build a supportive and understanding space where we can explore how anxiety affects your relationships and work together to find strategies listen to it so that you can learn to take care of yourself in it.

  • Depression External link

Many of us experience some form of depression, but when it starts to interfere with your ability to live fully and do the things you want, it becomes a serious concern. My goal is to support you in finding effective ways to take care of it and work with your depression, helping you to coexist with it and regain a sense of control and purpose in your life.
