My Approach to Helping

Most people come to therapy because they want relief-- from pain, loneliness, anger, shame, etc. My training has taught me theories and techniques, and I've also learned just how hard it is to be a person sometimes! Sitting with you in your pain is one of the rare experiences that people get in the space of a therapy room. I value bringing you closer to your emotions. Clients have the ongoing decision of what to do with emotional pain. When you're ready, we'll give some attention to the pain, feel it, grieve it, and then heal from it. Therapy often involves letting go of the fantasy of creating a better past. Changing our relationship to the past is a staple of this work. There is no redo of what's happened to us, yet we can learn to transform the pain into something different -- something that can be carried better. With all clients, I serve as a gentle guide. I strive to lead with a balance of warmth, honesty, curiosity, humor, challenge and compassion.
