Our Ideal Client

We serve children, youth, and families in Washington County facing substance abuse, emotional and behavioral issues, or co-occurring mental and substance abuse issues. Families we serve experience significant hardships due to poverty, abuse or neglect, family conflict, chronic illness, and ethnic or racial discrimination.

Our Background and Approach

In our view, when a young person has a problem, family interaction and communication can also suffer. Utilizing family expertise and involving the family in treatment whenever possible are the most effective ways to help children and youth experiencing emotional and behavioral problems and those of substance abuse and dependency. Through counseling with a problem-solving focus, problems and goals are clarified with all family members and a plan is developed that is specific to the child’s individual needs. Youth Contact is certified by the State of Oregon to provide both outpatient alcohol and drug and outpatient mental health services for children and youth.  All clinicians are masters level and have training in the provision of family, group and individual treatment with particular emphasis on understanding children and youth within the larger context of their family, school, culture/values and community.

  • Attachment Theory External link

    We work with youth who have had disruptions in their attachments with their caregivers and we work on re-establishing safety in their relationship with the caregiver.

  • Solution Focused Brief Therapy External link

    Solution Focused Brief Therapy is utilized within families in crisis and children with behavioral issues. One of the great strengths of this approach is that it is present-focused, problem-oriented, and goal-directed.
