My Ideal Client

As a relational therapist, I work with children, teens, adults, and families who want to stop enacting unhelpful behavioral patterns and learn how to create and maintain patterns of interaction that benefit themselves and their relationships. Maybe you or your family are struggling with emotional regulation and meaningful communication, with a desire to understand why. My clients want to grow their self-awareness cognitively and be able to integrate that knowledge in their felt beliefs.

My Approach to Helping

The reasons people seek therapy are as varied as the people themselves. I work with my clients to tailor my approach to their needs, drawing from a variety of frameworks to support each client's journey of healing and self-discovery. My approach is eclectic, trauma-informed, and systems-based; rooted in modalities such as person-centered, existential, mindfulness-based, psychodynamic, somatics, and Acceptance and Commitment Therapy. I believe that it is possible for everyone to actualize a satisfying and fulfilling life; that the journey to get there is best supported through our relationships with others; and that movement toward psychological flexibility can help in facing the facets of life that feel unacceptable. I also resonate strongly with attachment theory, which I have found relevant in my work with kids consistently through the years. I strive to practice with transparency and humility to foster client-counselor relationships where safety is felt and trust can grow.

Why I Became a Therapist

For a long time, I knew I wanted to help people in some capacity. Of course, there’s many careers that allow for this, and I struggled to find my best fit. When I learned about relationally based counseling, that I could help people help themselves by being in relationship with them (plus strategic implementation of relevant interventions), I felt a sense of certainty that this was how I would best be able to help people. Before starting my journey as a counselor, I worked with kids in a variety of capacities, which often included some degree of work with their family system. From this, and from my upbringing by two anthropologists and my own study of sociology for my bachelor’s degree, I find a systems-centric lens natural to adopt and key to doing both family and individual work. I also have personal experience navigating ADHD within the family, and am passionate about helping families feel supported as they face the complexities and joys of life with ADHD.
