My Ideal Client

I have years of specialized training in treating chronic anxiety, debilitating depression and working with elder adults facing aging, loss, and emotional wellbeing issues. With empathy, clinical expertise, and a steady, supportive presence we can move together, sometimes with humor, towards developing the new skills and perspectives that pave the way to your progress. I provide virtual therapy to individual adults 18+.

My Approach to Helping

My therapeutic work with clients is grounded in an understanding of the effects of trauma, neglect, and attachment injuries that occur in childhood. At the same time, my focus is always on meeting my clients in the here-and-now and using tailored, evidence-based techniques that are proven to help you break out of the cycle of chronic anxiety and depression and regain a sense of peace and enjoyment of life. I use a combination of approaches in my therapy work, based on what a client needs. These approaches include: Emotion Focused Therapy Cognitive Behavioral Therapy Exposure and Response Prevention Interpersonal Therapy

Why I am a Good Fit for You

I currently work with individuals ages 18 and up. I am affirming of people of all identities, backgrounds, and lived experiences. I currently work with individual clients only. At times, in collaboration with a client’s interest, partners or family members may be invited to participate in a session to work on a specific goal. I currently conduct virtual sessions only, which offer ease and convenience, but other benefits as well, including the option to meet while traveling, online ‘home visits’ where I can get a sense of your living space (and pets), and the ability to easily share images and material that enrich the therapy sessions. And finally, on a personal note, I have deep empathy and hopefulness for those struggling with their emotional health, as I have personal experience with living with and overcoming depression. I have traveled extensively internationally and I am an active spouse, father and community member. I look forward to meeting with you.

Issues I Treat

Specialties

  • Aging Concerns External link

Over my 20 years of working with people, I have had the chance to work with so many wonderful elder adults from many nations and walks of life. It has given me a keen perspective that it is our emotional health in general, and in particular our relationship to aging itself that accounts for so much of our daily experience of growing older. I support older adults to move through grief and find old and new sources of meaning and connection.

  • Anxiety External link

For some, anxiety goes far beyond an occasional experience. It becomes intense, persistent, and unrelenting. It begins to define your life. I have an extensive background in treating post-traumatic stress, panic attacks, uncontrollable worry, and obsessions and compulsions. My style is warm and conversational, while also focused on getting you the relief from anxiety that you need.

  • Depression External link

Heaviness, somberness, morbid thoughts and suicidality, crying spells, numbness, thoughts that no one really cares. These aren’t just feelings–they’re symptoms. Depression is a medical condition that is treatable with medication and evidence-backed therapeutic approaches like values-based behavioral activation. I have worked with individuals struggling with depression for over fifteen years. I approach depression treatment with warmth and a focus on connection.
