My Ideal Client

When you're in the middle of a hard decision..."Should I stay and commit to this relationship or should I get out now?”, "Look for a new job or go back to school?”, "Have a baby???" —those are among the moments that it can really help to reach out to an experienced therapist. And whether you’re dealing with a difficult dilemma or life transition or a more long-standing issue such as learning to better manage depression or anxiety, I'd be delighted to help you work through that hard spot.

My Background and Approach

I received my master’s degree in counseling from Portland State University in 2008, and I opened my private practice later that same year. The focus in my master’s program was on couples, marriage and family counseling. I completed both a practicum and an internship through Portland, State University, where I counseled individuals, couples and families. Additionally, I provided counseling services at the YWCA counseling center in Portland, as an intern, and a volunteer and have maintained my busy private practice for over 15 years . I have had the opportunity to work with people from diverse backgrounds and people in nontraditional relationships of many kinds. My style is warm, open honest, straightforward, humorous, and non-judgemental. I find that counseling is often a process of unraveling early messages we may have received about ourselves and the world, figuring out where they originated, discarding those that are unhelpful and getting back in touch with who you really are.

My Personal Beliefs and Interests

Therapy is about having a caring, objective, involved listener who is invested in helping you to create meaningful and lasting change and difference in your life. I work to create an atmosphere of acceptance, safety, and hope in the counseling office. My goal is to create an environment in which people can trust me. I believe my philosophies and approach are inclusive, and can be effective with both individuals and couples, as well as with clients with backgrounds different from my own. I feel honored to be given the opportunity to hear my client’s stories, and witness as they make connections between the past and the present, and learn to listen to their inner voice, and accept themselves as they truly are. As this happens, people can begin living a more full and satisfying life.
