My Ideal Client

I provide affirmative psychotherapy to adult individuals and couples of different cultures, genders and sexual identities. My areas of focus are family conflict, co-dependency and 12-step recovery, trauma, and couples work. I also enjoy working with clients entering into new parenthood.

How I Can Help You

I believe therapy has the power to transform people's lives and improve their relationships. My approach is collaborative and relational. I strive to help clients develop goals and strategies to increase self-knowledge and awareness of strengths. I assist clients in processing how past experiences may contribute to insecurities, unhelpful patterns in relationships, and professional dissatisfaction. Throughout the therapy process I help empower clients to change their life narratives by expressing and pursuing what they want in their lives.

Why I Became a Therapist

I believe strongly in the power of therapy to transform your life. My background is in public health and sex education, but I found that working directly with people is what I was most drawn to. I began my work in Los Angeles where I lived for many years and now am pleased to call Portland home.

Issues I Treat

Specialties

  • Codependency External link

I have completed trainings by the Meadows developed by Pia Mellody. I work with clients to build self-esteem and confidence by learning to set boundaries in relationships, ask for what they want, gain acceptance and understanding of themselves, and build satisfying relationships.

  • Family Conflict External link

My therapy framework is largely psychodynamic, so I work with clients to understanding dynamics, patterns and roles they play in their family currently, as well as coping strategies they developed growing up. My experience ranges from helping clients share secrets, individuate financially, process life changes like deaths and marriages, and repair damaged relationships.

  • Relationship / Marriage Issues External link

I have experience working with couples on issues ranging from sexual and emotional intimacy to infidelity and life transitions. My work with couples centers on changing patterns of communication and developing more positive ways of interacting. I help couples explore how past relationships, childhood wounds and feelings about themselves creep into their relationships in unwanted ways.

  • Historical Trauma External link

I work with trauma survivors to help change the way they feel about themselves by processing shame, rediscovering a sense of power and safety and rewriting their life narratives. I have done training in the Trauma Resiliency Model (TRM) which helps address the impact of stress on the body.

  • Postpartum External link

Navigating emotional, physical and social changes after having a baby can be incredibly isolating and challenging. I work with new parents to help them adjust, modify expectations, and find support after this big change in life. As a parent myself I also have empathy and knowledge about new parenthood.
