My Ideal Client

You may feel anxiety that doesn’t easily resolve, persistent low self-worth, compulsive busyness, emotional numbness, or depression. You might also feel stuck or hurt in romantic relationships. Often, these symptoms relate to emotional wounds stemming from painful past experiences or long-unmet needs. These emotional wounds can profoundly shape how you think, feel, and act. I offer therapy to help resolve wounds and move into a better relationship with yourself, others, and life.

My Approach to Helping

To help shift patterns that aren’t working and bring healing to trauma and emotional wounds, I integrate several approaches. The core focus of my work is helping you access and process the emotions you carry in a safe way, where you feel connected to yourself and connected in the therapy relationship. This allows the charge of old emotional burdens to lessen and creates freedom to make new choices in your life. Along with making room for emotional processing, the therapy I offer is a space to explore yourself, your relationships, and both the painful and the good parts of life. I am an active participant in your therapy experience. I ask questions, make observations, and help connect the dots. In this process, you can get to better know yourself and your authentic wants and needs. We may also reflect on the choices you are making in your life and relationships, figure out what’s working and what’s not, and consider changes that would move you toward the life you want to live.

My Personal Beliefs and Interests

I see deep healing as expanding our capacity to hold our own experience and that of others with presence, acceptance, and an open heart. This is different from the perspective of healing as the elimination of difficulty and perfecting the self so we only feel good and don’t feel pain. While there is great benefit in the healing that comes from shifting our behaviors and processing emotions so our burdens are lighter, I also see life as a river of never-ending change that includes both joy and great difficulty. In the river of life, when we can open ourselves to all parts of our humanity, including the pain, we can develop compassion, humility, and an intimacy with ourselves and others that nourishes us deeply and instills life with an enduring fullness.

Techniques I Use

Specialties

  • Accelerated Experiential Dynamic Psychotherapy (AEDP) External link

AEDP is a trauma-focused, emotionally-attuned, and somatic therapy. It supports emotional and trauma healing through facilitating corrective emotional experiences (an experience of the new and good) within the client and between client and therapist. This is the primary modality I use with individuals, and I've had extensive training in it (currently I'm AEDP Level 2 trained).

  • Couples Counseling External link

I'm trained in Emotion-Focused Therapy for Couples and also Relational Life Therapy. In couples therapy, my first goal is to help partners see clearly the cycle of behaviors that cause disconnection and hurt in the relationship. I work to help each partner feel understood and to take accountability where needed. We'll work to process the difficult emotional experiences that come up in conflict, and I also help you learn new skills to foster connection and communicate more effectively.

Issues I Treat

Specialties

  • Anxiety External link

Anxiety is often a surface manifestation of something deeper going on in the psyche. Anxiety can be a manifestation of unresolved trauma, long unmet needs, a life situation or relationship that is not working well for you, chronic nervous system dysregulation, or an unsustainable stress load. In my approach, we will get to know your anxiety and the context around it, so we can find pathways to relief, peace, and increased confidence in yourself and your ability to handle the challenges of life.

  • PTSD External link

I have extensive training in modalities that treat developmental trauma, attachment injuries, and C-PTSD. Core to my therapeutic approach is treating the emotional wounds underlying trauma symptoms like pervasive shame, anxiety/depression, a harsh inner critic, and recurring difficulties in relationships.

  • Relationship / Marriage Issues External link

Through the many changes of life, relationships change too. Over time in your relationship, you may find yourself experiencing disconnection, unmet needs, big differences in how you communicate, or conflict cycles that erode closeness and trust. I'm trained in Relational Life Therapy and Emotion-Focused Therapy to support couples in distress in getting clarity about what's going on between them and to work toward greater connection, trust, and a secure bond.

  • Depression External link

Depression can be a surface-level manifestation of deeper pain or imbalances. We’ll examine the emotions, trauma, unmet needs, excessive demands, or other painful realities that the depression may try to numb or help you adapt to in some way. Working with depression also involves considering actions you may need to take to help support your well-being, create healthier relationships, and build a life that you like and feel engaged in.
