My Ideal Client

My clients are ready to learn new skills to manage what life has put in their path. Have you lost someone? Had a change in your health, career, or relationships? Feeling down, anxious, or disconnected from yourself or others? I can support you on a journey of healing that focuses on your strengths, your goals for a life-well-lived, and accepting reality as a path to change toward the person you want to be.

My Background and Approach

My background includes work with children, older adults, those with life-limiting illness, and people struggling with grief, loss, and adjustment to life transitions. My approach is collaborative, conversational, and warm. I incorporate mindfulness, parts work, and EMDR to help you learn to manage every day struggles. I will continually work with you to set and re-evaluate your therapy goals, then tailor your sessions to work toward those goals.

My Values as a Therapist

I believe that the central task of therapy is finding the balance between acceptance and change - acceptance of what is and change to enable what can be. I believe that, like plants which put on new leaves every year of their existence, we all have the capacity to grow at every stage of our lives.

Techniques I Use

Specialties

  • Internal Family Systems (IFS) External link

IFS is a therapeutic model that views every human being as a system of protective and wounded inner parts guided by a core Self. It teaches that the mind is naturally multiple—and that this multiplicity is healthy—because, like members of a family, inner parts can be pushed into extreme roles but also have valuable inherent qualities. IFS helps people access their undamaged, compassionate Self, which knows how to heal, and from that inner leadership, understand and transform their parts.

  • EMDR External link

EMDR is a structured therapy that encourages the patient to focus briefly on the trauma memory while simultaneously experiencing bilateral stimulation (eye movements, auditory tones, tactile tapping, etc.), which is associated with a reduction in the vividness and emotion associated with the trauma memories. Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) therapy is an extensively researched, effective psychotherapy method proven to help people recover from trauma and PTSD symptoms.

Issues I Treat

Specialties

  • Anxiety External link

Anxiety is a common symptom - most people will struggle with some level of anxiety at some point in their lives. I can teach you useful coping skills to help manage your anxiety in the short-term, as well as guide you through deeper work to heal the source of your anxious feelings.

  • Loss or Grief External link

We all experience grief and loss - whether it is the loss of a pet, a friendship, a job, or an opportunity. At some point in our lives, we will experience a major loss - that of a close loved one, a serious change to our own health or ability, or the ultimate loss that comes with our own mortality. I can help you face this loss with tools to manage the deep grief and exploration toward integrating the loss into your newly meaningful life.
