My Ideal Client

Whether you are looking for support in your relationships, dealing with loss, social anxiety, depression, caring for a family member, overcoming trauma, or simply feel overwhelmed with life, I can help. My treatment approach is person centered and collaborative. Every individual is unique and my approach will adapt to your needs. I encourage feedback so we can find what works best for you. My office in Multnomah Village provides a calm atmosphere where you can feel comfortable and safe.

My Approach to Helping

I work with individual adults navigating anxiety, grief and loss, depression, trauma, life transitions, parenting challenges, emotional regulation, and the search for purpose. My approach is integrated, grounded in trauma-informed care and shaped by Attachment Theory, Narrative Therapy, Mindfulness, and elements of Internal Family Systems (IFS). With over thirty years of experience in the fields of mental health and education, I offer a great deal of life experience, a broad perspective, and a calm presence. My counseling style is supportive, collaborative, and flexible. I am committed to helping you face your challenges and draw on the many strengths you already possess.

My Values as a Therapist

As a therapist, I believe there is always hope for change. In order to make changes, however, I believe we all need someone we trust to help us move through pain and areas where we feel stuck. My experience has shown me that many, many people did not have the support they needed in childhood to provide them the tools needed for adulthood. The good news is, while we can't change your past, we can help repair the hurt you have experienced and even help reroute some of the seemingly stuck pathways in your brain. I believe that working with someone who believes in us and really sees us is one of the most important factors in making lasting change. I have been a mental health case manager, an outreach worker, a teacher, a tutor, and now a therapist. I believe this chapter of life is the one I have been working toward my whole life. I am passionate about helping people through transitions, career choices, relationships, divorce, parenting, aging, care-giving and facing end of life.

Techniques I Use

Specialties

  • Mindfulness-based External link

Mindfulness Therapy is an approach that teaches present-moment awareness and nonjudgmental observation of one’s internal experiences. We begin by noticing our thoughts, emotions, and bodily sensations as they occur throughout the day. By noticing our moment to moment state, we create space within us to pause before reacting. This simple pause can improve emotional stability, reduce stress, increase self-compassion, and promote healthier relationships.

Issues I Treat

Specialties

  • Anxiety External link

Anxiety can be a constant companion for many of us. I use Mindfulness and Narrative Therapy with a working knowledge of neurobiology to help you reduce symptoms and gain an understanding of your anxiety. Mindfulness helps us become aware of our moment-to-moment feelings, thoughts, and bodily sensations. Narrative therapy can help us separate ourselves from our anxiety, giving us a little breathing room to explore our history and relationship with anxiety.
