My Approach

I believe every person has the ability to change and heal. Sometimes people get stuck and need additional support. I offer you presence and expertise that can help you, your child, or your family make the changes you feel are necessary. Whether you seek guidance in the midst of a current crisis, need support for your child or for your family, want to work to change an ongoing behavior, or wish to process a trauma or loss, therapy is a helpful place to begin. Sometimes deciding to enter therapy can be uncomfortable. I will do my best to help you feel at ease through this process. Please visit my website at www.parkershamescounseling.com for more details on my practice and approach, or contact me to set up a free initial phone or in-person consultation.

My Background

I received my Bachelor's in Sociology from Pitzer College in 2004. I worked for many years as a public health researcher and educator before returning to graduate school. I have extensive public health and mental health work experience with children and teens. I received my Master's of Science degree in Counselor Education, Marriage, Couples and Family Therapy from Portland State University in 2014. I have worked as a child and family therapist in school-based and in intensive outpatient community mental health settings, providing counseling to individuals, children, and families. I have received specialized training in conducting therapy with individuals, children, and families, as well as focused training in grief and loss, trauma-informed therapy, and interpersonal neurobiology. I believe that therapy is a powerful tool for change, and it is my privilege to provide a space for you to explore the possibility of healing for yourself, your child, or your family.
