My Ideal Client

I work with individuals, couples, and other relationships (friendships, adult family members, etc), who may find themselves stuck in painful patterns - conflicts that escalate quickly or don’t get resolved, anxiety, complicated grief, or disconnection. If this is you, you're not broken. Even when you’re struggling with what seems like an unhelpful pattern, it has usually been helpful or necessary at some point in your life or your relationship.

My Approach to Helping

I offer a collaborative, relational approach that helps you process difficult experiences and emotions and shift individual and relational patterns. I integrate somatic, attachment-based, and cognitive approaches. I am trained in multiple therapeutic modalities that have been shown to effectively address trauma and relationship challenges, so that change is something you experience, not just talk about. I will meet your challenges with empathy and curiosity, while also being honest and direct when something important needs to be named. Alongside the serious stuff, therapy can also be fun and playful! Together, we’ll find a way forward that best suits your unique needs and addresses what’s most important to you.

My Values as a Therapist

I believe that you make sense, and that you have the capacity to heal and grow, no matter what you’ve been through or how you’re feeling. Therapy is first and foremost about the quality of the relationship between client and therapist. One of the things that makes me a good therapist is the personal work I’ve done, both as a client in therapy, and as a person committed to social justice and intercultural effectiveness. Going through my own experiences of grief and loss as well as growth and connection in relationships gives me the capacity to feel deep empathy for others, as well as hold space for big feelings and experiences. If you choose to engage in therapy, my hope is that, in addition to feeling supported in therapy, you’ll also be able to be more present and available for other sources of connection, healing, and belonging in your life.

Techniques I Use

Specialties

  • Somatic Therapy (Body Centered) External link

I am a Somatic Experiencing Practitioner (SEP), which means that I have completed the 3 year professional Somatic Experiencing training program as well as additional consultation in this area. Somatic Experiencing is a body-oriented trauma treatment modality that aims to resolve symptoms of stress, shock, and trauma that accumulate in our bodies and nervous systems. I have successfully used Somatic Experiencing with a wide variety of clients in my practice.

  • Couples Counseling External link

I work with people in marriage or partnerships and other relationships (for example, adult family members or friendships) and I am trained through level one in PACT (psychobiological approach to couples therapy), which is a somatic and attachment based couples therapy modality. I also incorporate elements of the Developmental Model as well as other approaches. I have experience working with various relationship structures, including ethical non-monogamy and queer relationships.

Issues I Treat

Specialties

  • PTSD External link

Working with people who have experienced trauma is a cornerstone of my practice. I am trained in Somatic Experiencing and other trauma processing modalities that have been shown to be effective in treating trauma.

  • Relationship / Marriage Issues External link

I am trained in PACT (psychobiological approach to couples therapy) and work from a trauma- and attachment-informed lens. I apply intercultural communication principles to support people in better understanding and connecting with each other across differences. I am sex positive and have experience working with various relationship structures, including ethical non-monogamy and queer relationships.

  • Anxiety External link

Anxiety can feel debilitating! I have experience helping clients process experiences contributing to anxiety as well as develop tools and skills to help them feel more like themselves. I use a combination of somatic/"bottom up" approaches as well as cognitive/"top down" approaches to help clients find relief from anxiety.

  • Loss or Grief External link

I have worked with many people navigating various types and stages of grief and loss. I'm comfortable openly discussing death, traumatic loss, and suicide. I continue to study grief, loss, and how to therapeutically support clients experiencing grief and loss. I have a particular interest in working with clients whose loved ones include people impacted by severe mental illness or substance use.

  • Personal Growth External link

Somatic therapy can help you feel more alive and more like yourself, even if you're not currently struggling with something heavy or feeling stuck! I work with many clients who simply want to grow in their relationships, personal fulfillment, or creative expression.
